Position: Marketing and Communications Officer (Center for Khmer Studies)__Deadline:04-September

Location:  Phnom Penh

The Center for Khmer Studies (CKS) is an American international nonprofit organization and a member of the Council of American Overseas Research Centers (CAORC), with headquarters in Siem Reap and an office in Phnom Penh.

CKS operates as a vibrant educational and cultural hub through its study-abroad programs, public library, fellowships, capacity-building training, workshops, public hybrid lectures, and community events.

We actively connect and support Cambodian and international students and scholars while working with partner universities, private donors, government institutions, and grantmaking foundations.

Roles and Responsibilities:

1. Digital Communications, Social Media, and AI Integration

  • Develop and implement CKS’s social media strategy across Facebook, LinkedIn, Instagram, YouTube, and X.
  • Leverage AI tools, such as Gemini Pro, to draft, optimize, and streamline bilingual Khmer-English social media and web content.
  • Maintain a monthly content calendar covering fellowships, library services, publications, events, and institutional news.
  • Manage online communities by responding to inquiries, monitoring engagement, and leveraging automation tools.

2. Strategic Content Development and Curation

  • Produce high-quality visual and multimedia content, including graphics, videos, and promotional materials.
  • Write compelling stories showcasing CKS research, fellows, programs, and institutional impact.
  • Use AI translation tools to accelerate workflows while ensuring cultural accuracy, nuance, and alignment with editorial standards in both Khmer and English.
  • Maintain CKS branding and editorial standards.

3. Website, Marketing, and Analytics

  • Maintain and update the CKS website with news, fellowship announcements, events, and publications.
  • Produce and distribute regular e-newsletters to donors, alumni, academic partners, and subscribers using AI and automation tools.
  • Monitor digital performance using analytics tools and prepare monthly reports with recommendations to improve reach and engagement.

4. Public Relations and Event Promotion

  • Organize and manage online and hybrid events, including webinars and workshops, ensuring smooth technical operations and participant engagement.
  • Promote CKS programs, including fellowship calls, workshops, public lectures, conferences, exhibitions, and library events.
  • Prepare press releases, media kits, and promotional materials.
  • Maintain active relationships with media outlets, universities, and partner organizations.

Key Requirements (skills, knowledge experience & qualification):

Education

Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, journalism, public relations, digital media, or a related field.

Experience

  • Minimum of two years of professional experience in marketing, communications, or digital media.
  • Demonstrated experience managing Facebook, LinkedIn, Instagram, YouTube, and X.
  • The following are highly desirable:
    • Experience working in higher education, an NGO, and/or a research organization.
    • A portfolio demonstrating graphic design and multimedia content-production experience.

Technical Skills and Tools

  • Proficiency in generative AI content and translation workflows using Gemini Pro, ChatGPT, or similar tools.
  • Experience running Zoom Webinars, hybrid events, and Facebook Live.
  • Proficiency in Canva or Adobe Creative Suite.
  • Experience with video-editing software, such as CapCut or Adobe Premiere Pro.
  • Familiarity with Meta Business Suite, Google Analytics, Buffer or Hootsuite, and WordPress or another content management system.

Languages

  • Native or professional fluency in Khmer.
  • Strong written and spoken English.
  • French-language skills are an asset.

Core Competencies

  • Strong writing, storytelling, and visual communication skills.
  • Agility in adopting modern digital and AI tools to streamline day-to-day operations.
  • Creativity and the ability to communicate academic work to diverse audiences.
  • Excellent organizational and project-management skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively with scholars, students, donors, media, and community partners.
  • Understanding of the higher-education or research sector.
