The project “Fostering Feminist Action in Social Movement and Trade Union calling ( FAST)” partnership with CATU, CFSWF and IDEA, the local union will strengthen organizing, voice, and accountability among women workers in Cambodia’s both formal and informal economic workers, especially street vendors, Tuk Tuk drivers and transportation workers, and domestic workers—so they can exercise their rights, access social protection, and secure practical improvements in day-to-day working conditions. The project aims to promote meaningful engagement and leadership of women workers in social dialogue by enhancing the capacity of women workers to take on leadership roles and strengthening social movement to actively engage in collective action to promote the right to decent work for all and capacitating the women workers to monitor the implementation of policies and to collectively document.

One of the project’s activities is promoted meaningful participation of women worker in participatory action research on the workers movement and the significant impacts of their livelihoods, income and expending daily life especially for the education of the children to make the parent suffering working overtime to generate income in the purpose to support their families members, Housing, electricity and sometime tried to saving for unpredictable case in their families such as: health issue or emergency.

This research aims to examine the realities of workers’ lives, including working and living conditions, wage levels, household financial pressures, and the risk or experience of debt. It will also assess children’s education status especially whether households rely on extra or part-time study, along with the role of family circumstances, social protection access, and parents’ ability to cover both school-related costs and additional learning expenses.

Objective of Feminist Action Research (PAR)

The overall objective of the participatory action research is strengthening women workers are capable in conducting the participatory action research on the expending daily life of workers to support their families’ members compare to their income/wage. The significant impacts of their livelihoods and social protection system especially on education for their children and other basic need and expense. The action research will specifically focus on:
  • To build capacity of women core group member and participation in feminist action research by strengthen the capacity of women workers and empower their participation in feminist action research, including in both formal and informal economic activities, so they can identify the realities of workers’ lives and their daily challenges including spending on children’s education and health care.
  • To identify family needs and social protection gaps for universal health care in reviewing the existing social protection systems related to the extension of universal health care to family members, including coverage gaps and barriers to access. 
Roles and Responsibilities:
  • Provide inception plan of lead facilitation and mentoring on PAR to partners including CATU, CFSWF, IDEA and women core group workers
  • Advise AAC, CATU, CFSWF, IDEA team and women core group on the action research method and processes
  • Facilitate training on PAR to partners including CATU, CFSWF, IDEA and women core members including orientating on workplan, data collection tools and its methodology
  • Lead the partners, union leaders and women core group member to conduct PAR including identify the problem and development research proposal, desk reviews, the data collection, data analyses and reporting
  • Leading to facilitate the validation workshop on the PAR reports from group of women workers in collaboration with AAC and its partner
  • Reporting and documentation the research in English and Khmer and brief research both in Khmer and English language by working with AAC and CFSWF
  • Produce case 6 studies in Khmer and English, the presentation of findings consolidate PAR in the launch event organized by ActionAid Cambodia
  • Paper policy brief at least 10 pages and factsheet
  • Consolidate policy brief at least 10 pages from the key results and recommendations from the research on Worker’s livelihoods and social protection system especially on education for their children and other basic need and expense and other one from the research results on Freedom of Association and Trade Union.
Key Requirements (skills, knowledge experience & qualification): 
  • Comprehensive knowledge and research experiences relevant to the field of the project especially understand the feminist action research concept
  • Strong facilitation and qualitative research skill with the experience working with women workers and trade union as an asset
  • At least 4 years of experience in conducting action research and action research training
  • Have excellent written English skills and Khmer and demonstrated ability in writing briefing papers and other information products.
  • At least master’s degree in a related area, preferably in labour rights and decent work, social science or gender and women's rights analysis and other relevant fields.
  • Experience in conducting training on PAR and the research in area of labour rights, decent works, social science or gender and women’s rights, and other relevant fields.
  • Able to examine, process and precisely dissect huge data, give brief outlines and clarify the importance of that data
  • Ability to be flexible with time and work schedule on weekend as needed
  • In-dept knowledge, skills and comprehensive experiences in monitoring and evaluation.
  • Commitment to AAC's Child Protection and SHEA and Safeguarding policy
