Budget responsibilities: Responsible for cash handling during shift and accurate reconciliation at handover.
Level 3: The post holder has frequent and sometimes intensive contact with children and young people through club activities, community engagement, and oversight of staff working directly with children. The role is accountable for ensuring strong implementation of child safeguarding standards across all Club 54 operations, including recruitment, induction, supervision, and reporting mechanisms.
The name Club 54 is inspired by Article 54 of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC), which highlights the responsibility of society to ensure children have access to information, opportunity, and support for their development.
Club 54 combines a community café, collaborative workspace, and creative and learning environment to create a safe and inspiring place where young people can develop ideas, learn practical skills, and connect with mentors and partners.
The Senior Barista / Shift Supervisor ensures high‑quality coffee and beverage preparation, excellent customer service, and safe café operations during assigned shifts. The role provides frontline supervision to Baristas and volunteers, acting as a role model for Club 54’s child‑centred approach and customer experience.
KEY AREAS OF ACCOUNTABILITY:
- Prepare high‑quality coffee, tea, and other beverages consistently meeting Club 54 standards.
- Supervise shift staff to ensure efficient workflows, good teamwork, and adherence to hygiene and safety procedures.
- Ensure café cleanliness, including tables, counters, equipment, and customer areas, throughout the shift.
- Oversee shift cash handling, monitor sales, and ensure accurate end‑of‑shift reconciliation and reporting.
- Support training and coaching of new Baristas and volunteers on drink preparation, customer service, and safeguarding basics.
- Handle customer queries and complaints courteously, escalating complex issues to the Operations Coordinator when needed.
- Report any equipment faults, safety concerns, or safeguarding issues promptly.
Child safeguarding responsibilities
- Ensure staff maintain appropriate behaviour and boundaries with children and young people at all times.
- Help maintain safe physical spaces (no hazardous objects accessible to children, safe traffic flow, respectful language and imagery).
Occasional duties
- Undertake any other responsibilities assigned by the Club Director consistent with the role and grade.

QUALIFICATIONS
- High school diploma or equivalent required; further training in hospitality, business, or management is an advantage.
- Barista training or hospitality certification desirable.
EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS
- At least 1 year of café experience with some informal leadership responsibilities.
- Strong customer service skills, reliability, and ability to manage busy periods calmly.
