The Cambodian Rural Development Team (CRDT) is a local NGO established in 2001, undertaking community development and natural resource management projects throughout Cambodia. It has the joint vision of poverty alleviation in support of environmental conservation. The CRDT team has strong technical expertise and experience in community empowerment, environmentally appropriate agricultural development, income generation, water & sanitation, environmental education and waste management, and climate change. CRDT also stimulates sustainable local economic development through its social enterprise, CRDT Tours Co., Ltd., which focuses on ecotourism services and agriculture businesses. Currently, CRDT works in Kampot, Mondulkiri, Kratie, and Stung Treng provinces to improve the livelihoods of local communities while protecting the environment.
The Field Officer – Agriculture is responsible for implementing, coaching, and monitoring organic and climate-smart agriculture interventions under the REDD+ Livelihood Improvement Project. The role ensures producer farmers and demo farms adopt organic standards, comply with conservation requirements, improve productivity and income, and contribute to REDD+ outcomes through sustainable land use and reduced pressure on protected areas.
Roles and Responsibilities:
- Deliver organic agriculture training and refresher sessions on vegetables, fish/frog culture, and integrated farming systems
- Support installation, renovation, and upgrading of demo farms (greenhouses, vegetables, aquaculture, poultry/chicken, pigs) following approved technical designs.
- Promote climate-smart and biodiversity-friendly practices, including compost making, local inputs, IPM, water efficiency, and waste management.
- Ensure no chemical use and compliance with REDD+ and Protected Area regulations.
- Conduct monthly coaching and home visits (minimum 5–10 farmers/month) to demo and producer members farmers.
- Troubleshoot/solve technical problems and provide practical, field-based solutions.
- Facilitate farmer-to-farmer learning and peer exchanges through demo farms when necessary.
- Support producer farmers and GoOs to apply Internal Control System (ICS) tools, including farmer diaries and records.
- Assist with preparation for internal/external audits in coordination with IRCC and WCS.
- Ensure producer farmers comply with conservation agreements, GoO by-laws, and organic standards.
- Maintain and update farmer profiles, demo farm records, training attendance, and production/income tracking tools.
- Assist in preparing monthly and milestone reports with accurate data, photos, and field evidence.
- Coordinate with M&E and Project Manager or Team Leader to ensure data quality and verification.
- Work closely with Saving Group Staff members to align loans with appropriate agriculture activities.
- Coordinate with PDoE, VAHWs, and local authorities during training, vaccination, and monitoring.
- Identify and report environmental, social, or compliance risks and propose mitigation actions.
Key Requirements:
- Bachelor's Degree in or diploma in Agriculture, Agronomy, Rural Development, or related field.
- Experience in community-based agriculture or livelihood projects for 1 to 3 years as a minimum
- Experience working with organic, climate-smart, or conservation-linked agriculture is an asset.
- Practical knowledge of vegetable production, small livestock, aquaculture, and composting.
- Understanding of organic standards, ICS, and demo farm models.
- Basic data collection, research and reporting skills (Excel, forms, photos).
- Strong community facilitation and coaching skills.
- Ability to work independently in remote areas.
- Respectful engagement with indigenous and vulnerable communities.
