Location: Kratie Province, Cambodia
1. Background
WWF-Cambodia works
in partnership with local communities, civil society organizations, and
other stakeholders to promote sustainable development, biodiversity
conservation, and inclusive livelihoods. As part of this work, the
organisation supports community-based ecotourism initiatives that enhance local income, protect natural and cultural heritage, and strengthen community capacity.
2. Purpose of the Internship
The
purpose of this internship is to provide technical, research, and
coordination support to ecotourism-related activities, while offering
the intern practical experience in community-based tourism, sustainable development, and NGO project implementation.
3. Scope of Work / Key Responsibilities
Under the supervision of the Community Livelihood Officer, the intern will:
Research and Analysis

Conduct desk research on ecotourism best practices, community-based tourism models, and relevant policies.

Support baseline assessments, community profiles, and value-chain or market analyses related to ecotourism.

Compile and summarise findings into briefs, reports, or presentations.
Community and NGO Support
-
Assist in coordinating activities with community groups, local leaders, and partner NGOs.

Support the organisation of community meetings, workshops, and training sessions.
-
Help document community consultations, lessons learned, and success stories.
Project Implementation Support
-
Assist in the implementation of ecotourism activities (e.g., product development, visitor experience improvement, guiding services, homestays, trails, or conservation-linked tourism).

Support monitoring and documentation of project activities and outputs.
-
Contribute to the development of work plans, activity reports, and donor updates.
Communication and Knowledge Management
-
Support the preparation of communication materials (case studies, short articles, presentations, social media content, or photo documentation).

Help organize project files, databases, and documentation.
-
Assist with internal learning and knowledge-sharing activities.
Other Tasks
-
Perform any other related tasks as assigned by the supervisor, consistent with the objectives of the internship.
4. Expected Outputs

Research notes and summaries related to ecotourism and community-based tourism.

Documentation of meetings, workshops, and field activities.

Contributions to project reports, communication materials, and presentations.

Organized project files and supporting documentation.
5. Duration and Location

Duration: 2-4-6 months, based on discussions

Location: Kratie based, with some travel to Phnom Penh, and field sites

Time Commitment: Full-time
6. Supervision and Reporting
The
intern will report directly to the Community Livelihood Officer and
work closely with the program team and partner organizations.
7. Required Qualifications and Skills
Essential
-
Strong interest in ecotourism, community-based tourism, conservation, and sustainable development.

Good research, writing, and organizational skills.

Ability to work respectfully with diverse communities and stakeholders.

Proficiency in French is desirable
Desirable
-
Previous experience with NGOs, community projects, or field-based work.

Familiarity with participatory approaches and community engagement.

Knowledge of sustainable tourism principles.
-
Local language skills relevant to the project area.
-
Basic skills in photography, GIS, or social media are an asset.
