The Bayon School of Agroecology is working in developing new curriculum for food processing vocational training programs. Cambodia's agricultural sector is undergoing remarkable expansion. However, this growth is coming up against a major obstacle: the lack of skilled labor and technicians. This shortage is holding back the development and transformation of agriculture and the sustainable food system, and limiting the creation of decent, well-paid jobs for young Cambodians.
The current vocational training available to young Cambodians wishing to work in agriculture is limited to certificate level. These courses are not sufficient to meet the market's needs for technical and managerial skills.
The Bayon School of Agroecology is involved in the creation of new advanced technician courses (Bac+2) in response to the development and professionalization of the agricultural job market in Cambodia. These new courses aim to:
- Meet the growing demand for qualified professionals for agriculture and food industry sectors
- Meet the needs of the rapidly changing agricultural market
- Align with the Cambodian government's and the Cambodian government's priorities for developing sustainable, resilient and competitive agriculture.
- Improve the career prospects of graduates by offering them more comprehensive and specialized training
A committee of experts has been set up to monitor procedures and ensure the quality of the program: professionals from the agricultural sector, representatives of the private sector and the Ministry of Labor to validate the relevance of the curriculum to market requirements and the challenges of sustainable agricultural production.
