The Literacy Facilitator is assigned to work at Field Office. S/he is primarily responsible for coordinating and facilitating the implementation and achieving RtR-Kh Literacy Program (LP) at target schools for full district coverage approach. S/he will support in conducting training, coaching, demonstrating District Resource Person (DRP) to ensure they have capacity to support school principals, teachers, librarians to conduct Literacy activities, and support School Support Committee to develop and implement School Development Plan through monitoring & supervision of the program activities; provide logistical and organizational assistance to the Literacy Program Officer, technical in implementing the Program. Other responsibilities will also include procuring, organizing logistics for trainings/meetings and delivering reading and instructional materials to RtR’s target schools. This position is required extensive travels to work with teachers in remote rural schools. This position will report to the Literacy Program Officer (LPO).
Roles and Responsibilities
Program Implementation, Training and Coordination;
Assists in coordinating, conducting and facilitating training and capacity building workshops on children’s learning and reading skills improvement, reading habit promotion, early childhood learning process, activities to promote art and literacy development.
Provides coaching, demonstrating and supporting DRP in supporting principal and teachers to ensure that children learning is achieved.
Assists schools in implementation of Literacy Program and enriches activities for children, and make suggestions for improving quality and utilization of new literacy materials/resources.
Involves in making suggestions on improving the Literacy Program’s impact and sustainability in schools and communities, with particular focus on maximizing quality and the community’s involvement and contribution to the sustainability of the program.
Planning, Reporting and Documentation
Supports logistics and facilitates training and maintaining capacity building to Training of Trainer of Literacy Facilitators (LFs), teachers and school administrators on R&WI, library management and activities.
Gather statistics (student learning achievement, attendance, other progress performance…etc) as and when required.
Monitors and gathers information/data for reports on the status and progress of project sites.
Assists in preparing program reports: monthly progress report, quarterly report, annual completion report and submit to supervisor on timely basis.
Documents best practices and lesson learned observed during field visits and meetings and submit to relevant sections for communicating to external parties (government, donors, regional & global staff).
Assist with collecting data for baseline survey for new target schools
External Coordination and Networking
Represents Room to Read by attending and speaking at relevant forums and advocates for the importance of Literacy program work at the district level.
Performs other duties as assigned by direct supervisor.
Qualifications:
Required
Bachelor degree in related fields (Teacher training, pedagogy, education development…etc).
Minimum 3 years professional experience in education, especially early grades teaching at primary school.
Prior experience working with students, teachers, school administrators, government officials and relevant stakeholders.
Have good coaching, facilitation, presentation and communication skills with teachers and students.
Have strong passion for early grades’ education, development and social works.
Ability to travel frequently and work in rural area.
Computer literate: basic Word, Excel, Power Point and Outlook.
Preferred
Prior experience in developing literacy materials for improving reading and writing skills for pupils at early grades.
High commitment and trustworthy
Effectiveness in working in a non-profit organization that is focused on maintaining high quality work and a low overhead
Enjoy reading and working with children, travelling to community in the remote rural villages.
Knowledge in basic project management and budgeting
Ability to communicate basically in English.
