Wildlife Alliance is an international non-profit organization dedicated to assisting governments in fighting the illegal wildlife trade, managing protected areas, balancing development with conservation, conducting land use planning, developing economically self-sustaining communities through agriculture and eco-tourism, securing and caring for endangered wildlife populations and building sustainable financing solutions.
Responsibilities
- Conduct laboratory tests, analyse and interpret test results (eg. fecal flotation exams, heartworm checks, skin scrapings, haematology, urinalysis, and fungal cultures)
- Collect and store biological samples in the in-house laboratory and submit specimens to outside laboratories when required (eg. draws blood for laboratory analysis; maintains file of lab test results and ensures that test results are recorded in patient records)
- Ensure pharmacy and laboratory inventory is consistently stocked (eg. keep accurate records and
- logs; obtain and verify shelf life of medications)
- Assist the WA veterinarians in medical, surgical, dental, necropsy procedures and wildlife
- emergencies (eg. bandages and wraps wounds, taking vital signs, anesthesia monitoring, assist examination, assembling required supplies and instruments prior to procedure)
- Perform diagnostic imaging and care for veterinary equipment (eg. x-ray and ultrasound)
- Understand usage purpose and dosage for all prescription drugs and readily explain them to the zoo keepers and other veterinarians
- Ensure all surgical and other veterinary equipment are properly sterilized before and after use, stored properly.
- Ensure the treatment/surgical room is clean and organized.
- Develop SOPs as needed
Requirement
- Bachelor of Veterinary Science or similar
- Excellent English language skills (speaking, writing, reading) and Khmer
- Passion and interest to conserve wildlife of Cambodia
- Must have good skills in laboratory work
- Technical know-how in areas such as disinfection, administering medication, use of medical technologies and diagnostic equipment
- Working knowledge of the pharmaceuticals that are prescribed by the Veterinarian
- Availability to work in emergencies and during off days/public holidays when required
- Strong time management skills and the ability to prioritize tasks depending on needs
- Good organizational skills to efficiently multitask under pressure
- Proficiency with computers and veterinary software
- Ability to effectively work alongside other veterinarians
- Good listening skills and ability to follow instructions properly
- Clinical skills, documentation skills, analyzing information is desired
- Can stay calm and efficient during a medical crisis.
Location: Takeo Province, Cambodia with outstation if required during animal rescue
Salary: $300-$500 based upon experience
Start date: as soon as possible
Probation period: 3 months
