Unable to have her own children, Geraldine became “Mum to Many” as she took in street kids, orphans and the disabled to give them good food, a place to sleep, an education and lots of love.
Establish, develop, and manage the smooth operation of the Library alongside teaching appropriate library, research, and literacy skills to individuals, small groups and whole classes and across the age range of the school. Create and maintain a visually and intellectually stimulating learning environment which supports and enhances the delivery of the Sunrise’s educational programmes. Ensure the library is the beating heart of the Sunrise Learning Center Programmes.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:
Leadership:
- Work as a good player of teacher team to plan the lessons that meet students’ need and interest.
- Be a role model in promoting an English-speaking environment as well as encouraging students to speak
- English as much as possible
- Contribute to the professional development of the Library.
- Develop a strong and effective school culture based on the values of Sunrise Cambodia
- Maintain a professional standard of dress and role of teachers
- Be punctual for class, library, and meeting
Coordination and Relationship:
- Work closely with education coordinator and education team of the SLC Program to update relevant
- resources to teach both English and Math and to prepare eLearning lessons
- Attend meeting, training and seminar as required by Sunrise Cambodia
- Report concerns in relation to students’ misbehaviors, hygiene, well-being to relevant line manager and
- management
- Work closely and cooperatively with volunteers
- Facilitate and involve in Sunrise’s internal events as required by Sunrise Cambodia
- Observe and evaluate students’ progress and report to the Education Coordinator and Management.
Teaching, Learning and Managing:
- Develop and maintain a vibrant library environment, with a diverse collection of books, resources and other materials, representing the diversity of the student body and supporting the range of the educational programmes.
- As appropriate to the needs of the SLC Department, teach and/or support English lessons based in the Library, and small groups of students in their development of English.
- Ensure the development of research and independent study skills through taught courses and individual and group support, during Curricular and Super Curricular sessions.
- Promote and support literacy amongst the community kids and Residential Care Kids, leading reading and writing workshops and classes during both Curricular and Super Curricular sessions.
- In liaison with specialist teachers, encourage the use of the Library across all subject areas.
- Lead student library induction sessions, library skills sessions and support class visits to the Library.
- Support Prep sessions that are conducted in the library.
- Ordering books, journals and other resources
- Cataloguing and keeping track of library materials
- Advising academics on materials for their courses
- Making sure all users can access library resources
- Responding to requests from students, staff and other library users
- Promoting the library’s resources
Curriculum Involvement:
- Work with the Education Coordinator and SCL teacher team to create a whole school information literacy plan, integrating information literacy across the curriculum.
- Maintain book lists supporting the development of study skills and wider reading for students.
- Work with education coordinator, SCL teacher and management to develop a whole school literature plan to foster a love of reading.
Administration:
- Check and complete class attendance carefully according to Sunrise’s procedure
- Maintain teaching resources in stock by ordering ahead of time
- Maintain accurate records as required by Sunrise’s Education
- Make sure that all the class/library door and window are closed and help switch off the big fans and lights properly after class.
- Maintain student data, and ensure all data of students are accurate and up-date it regular in a quarterly basis.
- To proactively participate in the Staff Performance Appraisal process including the annual appraisal, midyear review and regular 1:1 meetings, ensuring that the Performance Appraisal process (including the paperwork) is an integral component of Annual Work Plans and activities;
- Promote a safe and secure work environment; foster a culture of safety and security awareness and consistently follow all Sunrise Cambodia safety and security policies, procedures and directives;
- Uphold and promote Sunrise Cambodia’s commitment to Child Protection and the Protection from Sexual Exploitation, Abuse and Harassment Policy
- Ensure children at all times are protected from physical, emotional and sexual abuse, and report any mistreatment or abuse of children.
- Ensure that the Sunrise Cambodia code of conduct is followed by staff at all times.
- Follow other duties as reasonably required by management.
- Respect child rights, privacy and confidentiality at all times, by involving children in case planning, ensuring that their privacy is protected, and not disclosing sensitive or private information to other children, or other agencies, without permission by the child, with consideration of the child’s development, and other safety issues
- University degree in education, degree in Library Science; a Master’s in Library Science or Information Management is a plus
- Teaching experience
- With a minimum of 2 year experience as a librarian
- Experience using computers and working with electronic databases
- Familiarity with information management systems
- Strong organizational skills
- Effective communication
- Ability to multitask
- A patient and friendly personality
- Excellent English speaking and writing skills
