Cambodia Development Resource Institute (CDRI), Cambodia's leading independent development policy research institute, is seeking to hire a part-time Khmer Language Editor to assist the Communication and Impact Unit (CIU).
Main Responsibilities:
- Perform language editing by commenting on, editing, and proofreading research reports, research articles for CDRI publications and other institutional documents under the priorities and timetable set,
- Making suggestions to improve logic, clarity, and consistency of the writing in terms of document structure, substance of the contents, and mechanics and styles of the writing,
- Incorporate the author’s (or authors’) responses to the Editor’s comments, suggestions, and/or edits, consult, use, and follow available CDRI’s editing resources (e.g., the internal Style guide, the Publishing policy),
- Contribute to improving the CDRI’s publishing mechanism and principles (e.g., reviewing and updating the PUB’s policy documents) and engage in professional development when applicable.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Being a native Khmer speaker with excellent command of written Khmer and English,
- At least obtaining proven professional certificates (or other related qualifications) in Khmer writing and editing or relevant areas, preferably Bachelor of Arts in Khmer and/or English,
- Demonstrating technical skills and competencies in academic, scientific, and/or policy-related Khmer-English writing and editing,
- Demonstrating professional achievements in performing Khmer-English writing and/or editing assignments,
- Proving relevant knowledge about professional publishing mechanisms and working procedures and environment at a publishing house,
- Understanding the Khmer writers’ problems that do not/rarely use their writing in Khmer and being able to simplify their languages and improve their writing skills and confidence,
- Being familiar with office software (e.g., Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook); editing software (e.g., using the editing functions in Microsoft Word or other applications); Khmer spelling software,
- Being familiar with design software (such as Adobe InDesign, Photoshop, or Illustrator) is a plus.
- At least 5 years of professional experience in writing and/or editing academic, scientific, and/or policy-related documents, ideally working in a policy research context,
