Working with local communities and organizations, that knowledge is applied to address species, habitat and ecosystem management issues critical to improving the quality of life of poor rural people whose livelihoods depend on the direct utilization of natural resources. Activities are implemented by WCS policy following the Keo Seima 2021 Strategy: a new, significantly-expanded, 5-year KSWSMP, REDD+ funded landscape strategy, that builds on nearly 20 years of WCS support to communities and government in the Eastern Plains Landscape.

Program Overview:
WCS has been working in partnership with the Royal Government of Cambodia since 1999, providing technical advice and support for the conservation of key habitats and species across the country. WCS has now worked in three major forest landscapes – Keo Seima Wildlife Sanctuary (KSWS), the Northern Plains, and the Tonle Sap Lake and Floodplain. Within the Landscapes our collaborative projects with the Ministry of Environment focus on law enforcement, eco-tourism, biodiversity monitoring, and livelihood of community which are funded by a wide range of bilateral, multi-lateral and foundation donors.

Job Summary:
The Forestry Project Officer (FPO) will work closely with Forestry Adviser and Wildlife Health Observer to provide support activities relating to reforestation in KSWS.

Duties as bellow:
1.    Support Forestry Advisor in fieldwork:

  • a.    First verification of reforestation sites, location, distance (maintenance), conflict situation of the land, etc
  • b.    Follow-up monthly progress of community family nurseries that are supported by forestry projects regarding progress and maintenance.
  • c.    Follow-up monthly progress of monthly maintenance of plantation sites in Kratie and MDK.
  • d.    Follow up seedling production and maintenance in the nursery at HQ (MDK and Kratie province).

2.    Assist in organizing tree-planting ceremonies and meetings with community and government officials.
3.    Assist to install signboards and follow-up maintenance.
4.    Assists identify community suppliers for labour and local products.
5.    Communication and working closely with Park, authorities, and community on forestry activities.
6.    Collaboration with relevant projects on issue-solving, meeting with relevant stakeholders.
7.    Support and assist in providing capacity training to local communities related reforestation.
8.    Assist Forestry Advisor complete sector activity reports.
9.    Assist Forestry Advisor in producing annual, Six-month, and monthly workplan and budgeting.

Qualifications

  • Can Read and write Khmer fluently.
  • Can speak Phnong Fluently.
  • Can travel to the project sites.
  • Agriculture or forestry degree.

1-  Report to Forestry Adviser monthly, quarterly, 6months, 9months, annual,…

Additionally: Support Forestry Adviser to monitor and report on all wildlife health issues in KSWS and the communities around it.
