TEAM PURPOSE: FFA is funded by the Swedish Embassy in Bangkok, Thailand. The program completed its first phase between 2018 to 2022. In January 2023, FFA began its Phase 2 implementation.

FFA is a network of over 90 civil society organizations (CSOs) in Asia working to ensure that financial institutions operating in Asia are transparent and accountable to Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) criteria in their business activities and investment decisions. FFA aspires to reduce inequality in Asia by creating an enabling policy environment for the integration of social and environmental considerations among financial institutions (FIs) in the region and ensuring that FIs advance the interests and needs of local communities towards their well-being.

Currently, FFA is operational at the regional level and in 10 countries across Asia, namely Bangladesh, Cambodia, India, Indonesia, Lao PDR, Japan, Pakistan, the Philippines, Thailand, and Vietnam. FFA’s regional Executive Team (ET) is stationed in Phnom Penh, Cambodia.

ASSIGNMENT PURPOSE: The Program Officer, Research and Advocacy will coordinate FFA’s research and advocacy initiatives with the guidance of FFA’s Research and Advocacy Advisor and under the supervision of FFA’s Program Lead.

Job Responsibilities

A post holder will be tasked with the following, but not limited to, primary responsibilities:

  • Coordinate FFA’s flagship and multi-country research activities on key themes prioritized in line with the Fair Finance Guide International (FFGI) Methodology, including supporting the overall project cycle activities in delivering regional research (from inception to launch), as well as supporting the annual compilation and analysis of policy assessments across all FFA countries, under the guidance of FFA’s Research & Advocacy Advisor.
  • Coordinate FFA’s regional capacity-building initiatives and support the delivery of national coalitions’ training and learning agenda including through exchange visits and peer-to-peer learning activities.  
  • Act as the main focal point for the FFA ET when national coalitions request relevant research and advocacy support, and liaise with regional partners, allies, and stakeholders, as required.
  • Work closely with the focal points of FFA national coalitions to monitor the progress of implementation, flag constraints, and ensure timely delivery of targets for research, advocacy, and capacity-building activities in close collaboration with the FFA MEAL Specialist.
  • Support and guide country teams to ensure a coherent approach to the delivery of research and advocacy initiatives in alignment with national influencing targets and with the overall FFA regional goals in close collaboration with FFA’s MEAL Specialist.
  • Work closely with the Knowledge and Communications Manager in maintaining up-to-date content for research, advocacy, and capacity-building initiatives on the FFA website, including the development of original products such as blogs, feature stories, creative data visualizations, and infographics.
  • Work closely with FFA ET in the preparation of relevant donor reports, fundraising proposals, operational plans, and other relevant requirements, particularly supporting the consolidation of the regional component on research, advocacy, and capacity building.
  • Act as the main focal point for coordinating project cycle activities for region-led trainings, workshops, study visits, and other FFA ET activities, including developing event concepts, and preparing summary reports, minutes, action points, and follow-ups.
  • Support all relevant administrative processes and project cycle activities in line with the delivery of FFA’s flagship and regional research, advocacy, and capacity-building initiatives.   
  • Support all other relevant activities and needs of the FFA ET.

EXPERIENCE, KNOWLEDGE & COMPETENCIES

 

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

 

ESSENTIAL

  • University degree preferably in international development and sustainable finance-related fields.
  • 2-3 years of experience working in program coordination, research support, influencing and campaigning, capacity-building, partnership management, international network coordination, or administrative/logistic management, preferably in an international organization.
  • Passionate and knowledgeable on international development issues such as human rights, climate change, gender equality, or other relevant themes covered by the FFGI Methodology.
  • Enthusiastic to work with a team while also demonstrating a high degree of initiative, independence, efficient time management, ability to work on own initiative, prioritize workloads, and the resilience to cope with high-pressure environments.
  • Excellent oral and written communication, presentation, and facilitation skills in English; excellent skills in report and proposal writing are highly desirable.

  • Responsive to feedback, flexible, but firm and assertive,   
  • An ability to work well independently and with a diverse team of different backgrounds,
  • A team player and a fast learner, someone who works well in a multi-cultural environment, and has an ability to communicate with positive changes,
