Our high school follows a Content and Language Integrated Learning program for teaching English. This means that we not only teach the English language, but also topics in social studies. Our students must learn the language in order to understand information, process the information through all levels of Bloom’s Taxonomy, conduct their own surveys, and demonstrate their knowledge as a performance task. The teacher is provided with unit plans to follow, but must continually adapt these plans and change activities to suit the needs and preferences of the students. The teacher’s role is to guide the students to discovering their own answers and forming their own opinions, while providing feedback, classroom management, and a positive learning atmosphere.
