Role Purpose/Summary: S/he will be responsible for planning construction projects from inception to completion in a timely and cost-effective manner. S/he will also be responsible for budgeting, organizing, implementing, and scheduling construction projects.

UWS is an international non-profit organisation strengthening primary education systems in remote and marginalised contexts. UWS seeks professional experience as a Construction Engineer for planning construction projects from inception to completion in a timely and cost- effective manner. S/he will also be responsible for budgeting, organising, implementing, and scheduling construction projects. The ideal candidate will be able to manage the projects effectively, have experience in construction management, be excellent time and project management skills and have expertise knowledge of building products, construction details, and relevant rules, regulations, and quality standards.
About UWS Cambodia
UWS was founded in Cambodia in 2008 and currently operates in Cambodia, Nepal, Myanmar and Madagascar. In partnership with communities, UWS strengthens primary education systems by working with national and local governments to establish functional, quality and inclusive primary education facilities for children in remote regions who were previously out of school. UWS has reached over 61,000 students, built capacity in 311 primary schools, and transitioned 74schools to national education systems.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assess needs for Repair / WASH interventions (Water, Sanitation and Hygiene facilities) at UWS Schools
- Ensure the project will satisfy the needs of the beneficiaries and provide oversight of construction and projects to ensure quality.
- Help design and revise the project work plan's construction/rehabilitation works component and monitor that the implementation of the construction/ rehabilitation activities respects the timetable milestones and deadlines.
- Regularly monitor ongoing construction activities to ensure that all the activities are executed per design, specifications and work schedule.
- Draft construction budgets, schedule deliverables, plan logistics and inventory management.
- Develop repair and maintenance plans.
- Negotiate, draft, and make contracts for suppliers and sub-contractors.
- Preparation of weekly, monthly work plans and construction progress reports.
- Coordinate with other stakeholders on the ground for smooth, efficient and effective implementation of the activities.
- Undertake regular site visits and provide technical assistance to the construction team.
- Adhere to the guidelines laid out in the UWS Child Protection Policy, particularly:
- ensure personal behavior meets the standards detailed in the policy and code of conduct.
- take responsibility for reporting concerns about a child's safety or a staff member's behavior using the UWS reporting mechanism.
- Perform any other task assigned by the supervisor(s).
Education & Professional Qualifications
- Bachelors in Construction Management, Civil Engineering.
- Minimum two years of work experience.
Desired Skills & Competencies
- Must be able to manage the projects effectively.
- Proven working experience in construction management.
- Excellent time and project management skills
- Leadership and human resource management skills.
- Expert knowledge of building products, construction details, and relevant rules, regulations, and quality standards
- Familiarity with design software will be an advantage.
