Cambodia Development Resource Institute (CDRI) is looking for ambitious and high-performance researchers for the position of Centre Directors to be based at the Centre for Development Economics and Trade (CDET) and the Centre for Governance and Inclusive Society (CGIS).
We are particularly interested in candidates who have the expertise and
experience to lead the research centre and team to produce high-quality
policy-oriented research, mobilise resources and fund opportunities and
liaise with CDRI’s key stakeholders. Successful candidates must
demonstrate a strong record of research achievement and have excellent
writing, management, analytical and communications skills both in
English and Khmer. The detailed responsibilities of the Centre Director
are as follows.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Research leadership (40%):
- Lead research projects, advise and oversee the research team from conceptualisation to research output
- Find and assess research grants and opportunities for the centre and report to the Executive Director/Deputy Executive Director on the nature of the project and whether to accept or reject
- Secure at least two research grants that last longer than 12 months
- Oversee and/or participate in the production of research publications
- Lead in policy engagement and research dissemination to policymakers and relevant stakeholders
Strategy, resource mobilisation, and representation (30%):
- Represent the centre in management meetings, brief team members on management updates and promote teamwork within and across centres
- Participate in strategic national, regional and international meetings, workshops, seminars and dialogues.
- Participate in national and regional research committees and networks.
- Build and maintain research partnerships and collaboration with policymakers, development partners, research institutions, and other stakeholders to foster collaboration and policy impact, generate and share resources for capacity building, raise CDRI’s profile and attract potential funding
Administration and budget management (15%):
- Establish and oversee the centre’s work plan and maintain the centre's annual total operating budget
- Manage workload and cooperate with the operation team on time management and resource mobilisation, including the annual budget and timely implementation and delivery of activities and outputs
- Lead and take over all responsibilities in preparing regular reports to donors
- Collaborate with other research centres on other special initiatives, if required.
- Take lead responsibility for resolving problems affecting the delivery of research projects and for planning and implementing future research projects that emerge from the current project.
- Approve administrative matters including leave requests and procurement of goods and services requests for the centre, etc.
Supervision, mentoring, and training (15%):
- Lead in human resource planning and preparing training and capacity-building activities for team members for their professional development and career goals
- Advise on, design, organise and/or deliver specific capacity-building activities for CDRI, if required Ad
- vise the team members of emerging trends, development issues and opportunities within the centre and CDRI.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Postgraduate degree in development economics with a focus on trade, international economics, environmental or resource economics, public policies, international development studies, and political science or related fields relevant to areas of research at CDET and CGIS (PhD is preferred.)
- Proven track record of producing high-quality policy-oriented and socio-economic research and analysis of local and international development issues.
- Expertise in quantitative and/or qualitative research methodology.
- Field experience in transferring technical skills and knowledge to national counterparts.
- A sound analytical grasp of local and international development issues affecting Cambodia and the region.
- Demonstrated strong management, leadership and organisational skills.
- Strong commitment to the professional development of team members and experience in mentoring and providing training and capacity building activities on research and any other related field.
- Experience in writing and applying for research grant.
- Excellent communication skills in English and Khmer, both oral and written.
