Duration: Full-time (1 year with possibility of extension)
Reporting to: Finance Manager

The Center for Khmer Studies (CKS) is an independent and not-for-profit research center. Our mission is to support research and teaching in the social sciences, arts, and humanities as they relate to Cambodia. Since its founding in 1998, CKS has aimed to foster an understanding of Cambodia and the Mekong region. 

CKS brings the experience and strength of more than 15 years of operation in Cambodia and solid established partnerships with local and international organizations. Operating in both Siem Reap (headquarters) and Phnom Penh, CKS offers a dynamic working environment with lots of room for initiative, innovative thinking, professional empowerment, and rapid decision-making.

CKS is looking for qualified candidates to fill the position of Accounting and Finance Assistant.

The Accounting and Finance Assistant will work under the supervision of the Finance Manager and work closely with the Program and Administration Assistant. 

Administrative Tasks:

  • Responsible for purchasing and maintaining the office stationery. 
  • Keep contracts, agreements, MOU, archives, and important documents filed.
    • Responsible for taking phone calls and messages.
    • Responsible for receiving and dropping off mail at the post office.
    • Responsible for computer maintenance, making sure to check all computers and other electronic equipment according to the maintenance schedule.
  • Regularly check all the CKS buildings and affiliated facilities for termites and apply wood protection.
  • Supervise the maintenance staff (guard work).
  • Responsible for setting up the monthly guard schedules and organizing meetings with the maintenance staff.
  • Record all the days off taken by staff and update their individual leave balance. 
  • Supporting the renewal of the MOU with the ministries, Wat Damnak, etc. 
  • Annually update the inventory of assets. 

Logistic Tasks: 

  • Responsible for the request proposal/quotation, this includes preparing the verbal quotation and preparing the procurement request form.
  • Assisting with reservations for accommodations, transportation, and lodging for CKS as needed.
  • Providing other support for the CKS programs as needed. 

Accounting Tasks:

  • Responsible for coordinating CKS program’s financial reports with donors. 
  • Preparing request payment forms that comply with financial policies.
  • Producing a monthly petty cash report, cash count, and reconciliation.
  • Distributing signed checks. 
  • Preparing employee salaries, payroll letter requests, salary pay slips, and time sheets. 
  • Responsible for paying monthly utility bills, services, and goods as well as preparing the expense report. 
  • Responsible for checking and filing payment vouchers, invoices, receipts, pay slips, travel authorization, travel advance, expenses report for operation, and the programs on file.
  • Preparing the payment for staff’s NSSF and SSSP.
  • Preparing the related documents for the Cambodian tax filing.

Required Qualifications

  • Must have a bachelor’s degree or be currently enrolled as an undergraduate student in Business Administration, Accounting, and Finance or a related field with at least 2 years of relevant working experience.
  • Ability to communicate and write in English at a high level.
  • Strong skills in Microsoft Office, QuickBooks, and email. Able to develop a clear budget plan and expense reports.
  • Strong skills in the management of finances, assets, and human resources- including staff contract management.  
  • Well-versed in procurement procedures and general administration.
  • Skills in information technology would be a valuable asset.
  • Strong commitment to ethics and values: loyalty, honesty, transparency, and accountability while performing the job.
  • Ability to be a part of a team by offering strong support to fellow staff members and the organization as a whole.
  • Ability to work independently with limited supervision on certain tasks as required.
  • Ability to clearly communicate information with the team and partner organizations.
  • Cambodian Nationality.
