In Cambodia, SNV implements projects in the agri-food, energy and water sectors, working with the public and private sector. Using market-based approaches, we support inclusive development, especially for women and marginalised communities, by lowering the barriers to sustainable development and promoting local ownership, building resilience to climate change and support climate mitigation efforts.
About Project
SNV in partnership with the Global Evergreening Alliance (GEA) is developing a land restoration programme generating livelihood, climate and environmental benefits through widescale planting of timber trees and perennial crops, partly funded by generation of carbon credits. The programme aims to support tree planting and farm management options which can provide an improved and/or more resilient income stream for small scale producers of rubber, timber, and agroforestry plantations.
The programme will involve working over various provinces with various partners including the government and private sector. To overcome the existing barriers to the widespread adoption of tree planting, the programme will use a market based approach to create and attract investments for creating or increasing the off-take channels for tree products produced by smallholders, seek financial investments and payments by results through financial institutions, and strengthen smallholder producer participation in the value chain. The programme would work with a variety of smallholder organisations and on private land and community forestry and community protected areas.
We currently are looking for Community Agroforestry Advisor. This position is subjected to funding and open to only national candidate.
Job Description
- Lead identification of potential implementation areas, and market offtakers/buyers based on market scoping.
- Identify implementing partners (PDAFF, NGOs, PDoE) and support contracting.
- Lead analysis with partners of value chain and smallholder producer bottlenecks to implement tree product livelihood models.
- Lead set up of district multi stakeholder dialogues on plantation, agroforestry models.
- Support partners in setting up cluster at commune level to discuss market linkages, service provision.
- Develop agroforestry extension curricula with partners and key experts and develop the extension curricula on clusters, community management, market linkages and business skills.
- Lead the roll out training of trainers in extension methods, technical tree plantation and management, agroforestry, market linkages.
- Support partners to work with communities to enter into inclusive agri business offtake contracts and SME supply and service provision (ie nurseries).
- Establish working models on community forestry and community protected areas.
- Ensure application of gender equality, women economic empowerment and social inclusion strategies.
- Support monitoring of smallholder producer areas established and managed and lead set up of structures for carbon credit benefit sharing.
Qualifications
- BSc or equivalent in agronomy, social sciences or forestry.
- Minimum of 5 years working experience with communities in plantation establishment and management in rubber, fruits, cashew or timber.
- Good extension experience with smallholder producers, indigenous groups.
- Experience in training and coaching Provincial government departments and NGOs.
- Ability to lead multi-stakeholder dialogues and clusters.
- Ability to motivate and manage implementing partners in achieving targets.
- Good knowledge and understanding of community interactions, smallholder bottlenecks and behaviours, gender equality and social inclusion.
- Good networking skills, team player ability to work with various. stakeholders.
- Excellent English communication skills, both written and verbal.
