The Socio-Economic Editor-Researcher will develop bilingual online resources on the ODC website related to three-main themes, including Economy and industry, People and Government, and Environment and land. These resources include topic pages, daily news summaries, public announcements, research publications and regulations, and other documents. He/she will provide editorial support and maintain the editorial standards and protocols to other teams to ensure the quality of the content on the ODC website. He/she will also work closely with other teams to implement the ODC project activities as assigned.

Key Responsibilities:

Research Content Development and Editorial Support (60%)

  1. Produce research content under the Topics and Profiles pages on the ODC website based on the current universal taxonomy of the three primary themes: Economy and industry, People and government, and Environment and land, in compliance with user demands, work plan, and priorities of the projects.
  2. Daily post news summaries and public announcements related to socio-economic development in Cambodia to the ODC website, using both Khmer and English language sources following the organizational editorial standard.
  3. Compile all related resources such as legal documents, policy papers, reports, and other publications related to Cambodia’s historical and current development along with their translation, following editorial standards for publication on the ODC data hub.
  4. Provide editorial support and maintain editorial standards and protocols to other teams to ensure the quality of the content on the ODC website, including proofreading and copyediting both Khmer and English content, document, and materials produced under the organization.
  5. Review and identify problems with the website and related processes; consult with Research and Web Content Manager and bring to discuss with Managing Editor, and IT and Website Manager to develop solutions.
  6. Assist in preparing, drafting, editing, and translating internal and external documents from Khmer to English and English to Khmer, as needed,
  7. Advise and guide research fellows, volunteers, and interns as assigned.

Project implementation and other supports (40%)

  1. Collaborate with other team members on implementing or taking the lead in project activities as assigned.
  2. Conceptualize and assist in developing project-relevant content, maps, infographics, and online resources.
  3. Contribute to outreach to prospective partners, data source providers, users, and the target audience.
  4. Coordinate focus group discussions and activities to gather feedback on the ODC website content and functionalities.
  5. Assist with report writing and correspondence as assigned.
  6. Take notes and prepare meeting minutes as assigned.
  7. Write blog posts and share content for social media, as assigned.
  8. Represent ODC to the public, participate in and contribute to collaboration and promotion of national and international events.

Qualification Requirements:

    • University degree in Education, Economic Development, Socio-economic, Media and Communications, International Relations, or other relevant area such as Public Policy, etc.
    • Graduates from universities of English-based programs are preferred.
    • Demonstrated skills and experience in researching, writing and editing materials; previous experience in editorial work and translation in English and Khmer, preferable.
    • At least two years’ working experiences in these areas.
    • Full command of English and excellent Khmer.
    • Strong presentation, writing and negotiation skills to elaborate the ideas and conceptualization of (potential) projects in development of new content, a plus.
    • Knowledge of various engines and tools for research, analyses and data visualization; other computer skills (WordPress, blogs, word processing, spreadsheets, PowerPoint, internet search) are necessary; basic GIS or mapping skills, a plus.
    • Understanding of and interest in socio-economic and environmental development trends in the country, or Greater Mekong Sub-Region (GMS), a plus.
    • Enthusiasm to work on promotion of public awareness and sustainable development through availability and accessibility of information and data, from CSOs-Government-private sector.
    • Good interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to work effectively in a team.
    • Good problem-solving skills and ability to take appropriate initiative to achieve objectives.
    • Strong commitment to objective and neutral journalistic standards.
    • Willingness to respect ODC principles and code of conduct.
