Position: Community-Led Child Protection Advisor (Coach) (Save the Children)__Deadline:06Mar

The Community-Led Child Protection Advisor (CLCP Advisor/Coach) is responsible for oversight, coordinating and implementing the project, facilitating and leading the community facilitators and stakeholders to build the community ownership in mobilizing community resources to solve child protection issues in their own community. The CLCP Advisor engages with communities using a community-paced, flexible, dialogue orientated approach, with the aim to enable inclusive community-led dialogue, decision-making and action to protect children. The CLCP Advisor facilitates the initial engagement with the larger community-sound community conscientization and community-led discussion during the initial phase of entry into a community, on behalf of Save the Children. The Advisor will identify and select community fellows/facilitators, who are willing to work with the community throughout the different phases in the community-led process on child protection. Then s/he moves into the background, providing coaching support and helping community facilitators get engaged in reflective practice throughout the implementation of Strengthening the Protective Environment for Children within the Community (SPEC) Project, inspiring them to maximize their potential.

In the event of a major humanitarian emergency, the role holder will be expected to work outside the normal role profile and be able to vary working hours accordingly.

Qualifications and experience

  • University or Master Degree in Community Development, Social Works, Psychology, Sociology, Child Protection and Child Rights Law, Development Studies, Human Rights, Legal Studies or any other relevant field; plus extensive and substantive knowledge and experience in child protection issues

Essential

  • 3-7 years’ experience in related field with progressively responsible experience.
  • Extensive experience in working with children and communities
  • Excellent skills in community facilitation, sensitization and mobilization
  • Motivated by the desire to serve the community
  • Able to interact with diverse people in a friendly, calm and patient way
  • Respect people with different views, backgrounds or orientations
  • Able to motivate people
  • Good listener and good communication skills
  • Self-critical and good self-awareness
  • Honest and open to reflect and learn
  • Knowledge of the local context and culture
  • Speak the local language
  • Experience in ensuring adherence to child rights, child safeguarding, and acting in the best interest of children
  • Experience in coordination with different stakeholders to achieve objectives
  • Experience in project cycle management

Desirable

  • Experience in the implementation of a community-led child protection approach.
  • Able to identify and document key learnings from community-led processes.
  • Experience in working on remote capacity building.
  • Politically and culturally sensitive with qualities of adaptability, patience, tact and

Contract length: 1 year.
