LOCATION: Based in Phnom Penh with frequent travel to Kep, Prey Veng, and Banteay Meanchey provinces
JOB PURPOSE:
DT is looking for a dynamic individual to pursue the responsibilities of the Head of Communication. The purpose of this position is to ensure efficient internal and external communication between DT staff and stakeholders in line with the overall vision and mission of DT. Under the responsibility of the Operations Director (OD), the Head of Communication will work directly with Branch Directors and project staff both at the headquarters and in the field to develop appropriate content highlighting DT’s work to relevant parties.
The Head of Communication will also report directly to the Operations Director and will collaborate with other relevant staff members to ensure effective communication for all of DT. For the next two years, 90% of the time invested in communication will contribute to the fundraising efforts. The position will contribute to effective, efficient, ethical and environmental operational management aiming at addressing the perceived needs of vulnerable children, youth and their families.
MAIN ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Communication Roles
- Implements the existing Communication Strategy under the leadership of the OD and in collaboration with the Branch Directors, and relevant project staff members;
- As the webpage is the number one tool for communication, makes sure to regularly update it with current information on DT;
- Leads the production of DT’s Annual Report;
- Ensures that all communication material is consistent with DT’s mission and vision and adheres to DT’s child protection and vulnerable peoples policies;
- Designs effective methods of presenting key data and milestones of DT’s projects to relevant parties;
- Creates visual and video content to highlight DT’s achievements using design software if needed;
- Supports DT’s management and project site teams in the development and distribution of all printed and visual material;
- Ensures the visibility guidelines are being followed according to each donor’s and DT’s needs;
- Serves as a media focal contact point for any related project;
- Transcribes interviews to be used for case stories and video content;
- Works closely with team members to develop content including photos, videos, and interviews;
- Writes case stories and other relevant articles to be shared with donors and published on DT’s website and relevant social media such as Facebook;
- Fulfills the requests of the Finance and Fundraising Head from donors for specific IEC materials including, but not limited to, photos, video, case stories, etc.;
- Conducts regular meetings with Comms staff at project sites to ensure the collection of high-quality media;
- If requested, assists in event management and content design;
- Ensures regular maintenance and organization of media folders;
- Spends 20% of time assisting the Head of Finance and Fundraising in preparing necessary materials for donor reports;
- Participates in annual budget and management meetings;
- Is responsible for the maintenance and safe-keeping of media equipment including the drone and microphones;
- Travels to project sites to document important events and project updates;
- Prepares itineraries for field visits and delivers them in a timely fashion to Branch Directors before each visit;
- Prepares and conducts interviews with project beneficiaries, staff, and key stakeholders;
- Communicates with fundraising staff and relevant donors to ensure necessary content is being collected during field visits;
- Provides technical assistance and training to project site staff to promote continued understanding and fulfillment of DT’s communication goals;
- Develops and maintains positive and constructive relationships on DT’s behalf among community members, donors, and other relevant parties;
- Ensures that DT’s child protection and vulnerable peoples’ policies are being followed at all times and that any communication produced (both internally and externally) adheres to these policies.
2. Networking and Representation
- Represents DT within communication networks, workshops, conferences, and other events in the field such as donor visits as needed;
- Works with partners for synergy building and skills pooling to design content addressing the needs of vulnerable children.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATION AND COMPETENCIES:
- At least a Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant field;
- Fluency in written and spoken English;
- Proficiency in written or spoken Khmer is a plus;
- 3 years experience in a similar position. Previous experience working in NGO and especially a grassroots organization is a plus;
- Experience using visual design tools to curate on-brand content for DT. InDesign and Photoshop skills are a plus;
- Video and photo editing skills;
- Experience managing social media platforms;
- Experience with and an understanding of content production as it pertains to vulnerable individuals;
- Possess an understanding of issues of disability and child protection and how they pertain to the specifics of the Cambodian context;
- Strong narrative writing skills;
- Strong facilitation skills;
- Be proactive and creative;
- Ability to work independently and efficiently;
- Strong organizational skills;
- Be honest and of positive mental attitude;
- Ability to work in a team environment both in an office and in the field;
