CDRI—Cambodia’s leading independent
development policy research institute, is seeking an ambitious and
highly qualified Cambodian national researcher for the position of Center Director
to be based at its Centre for Development Economics and Trade (CDET).
The Centre Director manages and represents a research centre and
supervises staff therein.
Major Responsibilities:
On Research- Initiate and oversee research project
- Lead the production of high-quality research reports and publications for dissemination to the stakeholders, partners, and decision-makers
- Identify topics, develop proposals and obtain funding for new research projects
- Assess grants and/or commissioned projects and report to the Research Director on the nature of the project
- Work with technical advisors, consultants, and scholars concerning technical and academic input and advice.
On Research Leadership, Resource Mobilization, and Representation
- Recruit and supervise researchers
- Lead and represent the centre, attend management meetings and brief team members on management issues; promote teamwork within and across centres
- Represent CDRI and the Centre at strategic national and regional/international meetings/workshops
- Liaise with stakeholders, partners, donors, and government counterparts and attract new research partners and collaborators.
- Build and sustain relationships and strategic partnerships with partners, donors, researchers, and other stakeholders to foster collaboration, generate and share learning, raise the profile and attract new potential funding.
On Administration and Management
- Oversee operation activities of the centre; manage workload and cooperate with operation team on time management, and resource mobilisation including annual budget and timely implementation and delivery of activities and outputs.
- Actively take part in CDRI wide research projects and collaboration initiatives.
- To take lead responsibility for resolving problems affecting the delivery of research projects and for planning and implementing future research projects that emerge from the current project.
- Approve administrative issues including leave requests, procurement request for the centre, etc.
On Supervision, Mentoring and Training
- Lead and take over all responsibilities in preparing human resource planning and annual capacity building for the achievement of their professional development needs and career goals.
- Lead and take over all responsibilities in preparing regular reports to donors.
- Advise on, design, organise and/or deliver specific capacity-building activities
- Advise the team members of trends, developments, and issues within the centre and CDRI.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Post graduate degree in development economics with a focus on trade/international economics, environmental/resource economics, or related fields
- Proven track record of policy-oriented, socio-economic research; economic analysis of international development issues.
- A sound analytical grasp of economic issues affecting Cambodia and the region.
- Demonstrated management ability, strong organizational skills, and experience working with and motivating a team.
- Strong communication skills, experience in mentoring, and commitment to the professional development of researchers.
- Experience in research grant proposal writing
- Excellent communication skills in English and Khmer, both oral and written.
