The United Nations Environment Programme (UN Environment) is the leading global environmental authority that sets the global environmental agenda, promotes the coherent implementation of the environmental dimension of sustainable development within the United Nations system and serves as an authoritative advocate for the global environment. UN Environment is the United Nations system's designated entity for addressing environmental issues at the global and regional level.

UN Environment’s Asia and the Pacific Office works in 41 countries across the region to promote and implement sustainable development solutions. It works in close partnership with key stakeholders including governments, the private sector, civil society, and other UN agencies. UN Environment's Asia and the Pacific Office helps to implement all UN Environment's programmes and projects in the region by initiating, coordinating and catalysing regional and sub-regional cooperation and action in response to environmental problems and emergencies.

The Environmental Affairs Information Internship is for six months. The internship is unpaid and full-time.

Interns work five days (35-40 hours) per week under the supervision of the Regional Environmental Affairs Officer of UN Environment Asia and the Pacific Office. 

Responsibilities
Daily responsibilities will depend on the individual's background; the intern's assigned office as well as the internship period.

Under the supervision of the Regional Environmental Affairs Officer, the intern will:
- Assist with preparation of briefings for senior management, including social, economic, environmental assessment and priorities in the specific countries and region;
- Regular tracking of political developments at the national and subregional levels with inputs from colleagues;
- Assist with preparations of the 3rd Forum of Ministers and Environment Authorities of Asia Pacific scheduled in Jan 2019, including information note, compilation of success stories, VDOs, inputs to planning and organization, follow up on tasks and time line for delivery, identify major groups and stakeholders, follow up with member states and major groups and stakeholders, and inputs to background documents and website;
- Provide inputs to 4th session of the UNEA of UN Environment scheduled in March 2019, including tracking the agenda and outcome documents, inputs to background documents, support communications, stakeholders participation, and other logistical support;
- Inputs and support to any other meetings being organized by regional office;
- Support preparation of background documents, presentations and mission folders; and
- Any other tasks assigned by the supervisor.

Education
Applicants must at the time of application meet one of the following requirements:
a. Be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher);
b. Be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree program (minimum Bachelor's level or equivalent); preferably enrolled in an advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) with a focus on environmental sciences, natural resource management, communication or international relations;
c. Have graduated with a university degree and, if selected, must commence the internship within a one-year period of graduation;
d. Be computer literate in standard software applications;
e. Have demonstrated keen interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the Charter;
f. Have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which include willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views.
 
Work Experience
Applicants are not required to have professional work experience for participation in the programme. However, experience in writing documents related to environmental issues combining information derived from various sources. Experience and ability to shape documents for different audiences are an desirable.
 
Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For this internship, fluency in oral and written English is essential. Knowledge of another official United Nations language or an Asian language is an asset.
