To support the development, CCF is currently looking for the qualified candidate to fill the positions of Science Club and Laboratory Officer.
The Neeson Crips Academy (NCA) Science Club and Laboratory Officer will be responsible for preparing and maintaining equipment for the science laboratory and overseeing safety in the science laboratories. Most importantly, this role will design, plan, and deliver hands-on science enrichment activities for students in grades K through 12 both inside and outside of standard classroom hours. The Science Club and Laboratory Officer will also be involved in helping NCA STEM teachers incorporate hands-on activities and experiments into the Khmer General Education curriculum at NCA.
The role reports directly to the STEM Coordinator and will work closely with the Science Lab Assistant. This role will regularly work evening hours to deliver after-school science clubs. Strong working relationships with science teachers, STEM Club facilitators, the Education Management Team, and NCA administrative staff is critical to ensure alignment to CCF strategy and philosophy of education. This role is an integral part of the CCF Education Program. He/she works to ensure the high quality of science education is provided. Key Responsibilities:
To assist with the continued development of NCA STEM Program, which may include
- Learn new experimental techniques, master scientific concepts from many subject areas
- Use a learner-centered approach to classroom management, avoid a didactic style of instruction
- Plan and create resources for STEM Clubs that are not directly curriculum-linked
- Plan and create resources for lab experiments that are directly linked to Khmer General Education curriculum and meet NCA STEM Teachers’ needs
- Design and deliver new STEM Clubs or other STEM enrichment opportunities for students, which may include creating new equipment using locally available materials
- Responsible for submitting budget proposals for materials required in classes and clubs
- Confer with teachers or club facilitators regarding what is needed
- Have all equipment or other materials prepared and in place prior to start of clubs or lessons
- Assist teachers or other club facilitators with activities when needed
- Build simple equipment for use in the laboratory or Clubs
- Maintaining an efficient system for use and allocation of materials and equipment
- Oversee the general security of the lab during school hours
- Advise teachers and students in safety matters related to the science lab
- Clean all work surfaces, sinks, and shelves
- Service and clean simple laboratory equipment
- Clean and correctly store all equipment or materials after laboratory lesson(s) or clubs
- Take care of other department resources (books, etc)
- Maintain a safe chemical storage/handling/disposal system according to local safety regulations
- Perform maintenance procedures for laboratory experimental and safety equipment
- Report damage of equipment to STEM Coordinator and arrange repairs
- Help Science Lab Assistant with essential laboratory management tasks
- Create and maintain a welcoming classroom atmosphere by working with a polite and respectful manner
- Provide direct instruction to students, as per the training of STEM Coordinator and instruction of the supervising teacher
- Help ensure all students, staff, and visitors practice safe lab behaviour
- Inform the supervising teacher of any student injuries that may occur outside the presence of the teacher
- Alert the supervising teacher and CCF admin staff to dangerous conditions with regards to the building and grounds
- Be alert to potential problems or accidents and intervene to stop them
Requirements:
- Bachelor degree science or related field.
- 2 Year experience in working in a science laboratory
- Have experience working with students and/or teachers
- Have practical skills and qualifications in Chemistry, Physics, Biology, or Earth Science
- Demonstrated desire to learn new skills
- Fully-qualified Cambodian teachers may receive special consideration
- Visibly ethical, able to demonstrate CCF values in day-to-day work
- Systematic & organized working habits
- Excellent oral and written communication skills in Khmer
- Intermediate oral and written communication skills in English
- Basic IT skills in MS Office (Word, Excel, Pow point)
- Background in Working with Children screen
