We work with government partners and local NGOs to improve children’s live especially marginalized and disadvantaged children. Save the Children is looking for a qualified and motivated candidate to fill in the position of Communications Development and Quality Volunteer based in Phnom Penh.

The Purpose of the Role
The Fundraising, Awards Management and Communications (FAMC) Department is responsible for producing a high volume of English-language materials including reports, newsletters, case studies, case stories, fact sheets, brochures and other promotional materials.

To support the production of exceptionally high quality English-language communications materials, Save the Children is seeking a Communications Development & Quality Volunteer with native or equivalent proficiency English and excellent writing and editing skills.

Qualifications and Experience
  • Must be detail-oriented with excellent interpersonal, computer and organizational skills.
  • Native English speaker or equivalent level of English is essential.
  • Creative, adaptable and flexible with strong research skills.
  • Able to give creative input to the format and content of written materials.
  • BA in journalism or communications would be an asset but is not mandatory.
  • At least two years of experience in a related field, particularly communications, creative arts or social media management, would be an asset.
  • Keen interest in working in the development sector is essential.

TITLE:  Communications Development & Quality Volunteer
TEAM/PROGRAMME: Fundraising, Awards Management and Communications (FAMC)

LOCATION: Phnom Penh with possible travel to the field

GRADE:
CONTRACT LENGTH: 3 months with possibility of extension

CHILD SAFEGUARDING:
Level 3:  the role holder will have contact with children and/or young people either frequently (e.g. once a week or more) or intensively (e.g. four days in one month or more or overnight) because they work in country programs; or are visiting country programs; ore because they are responsible for implementing the police checking/vetting process staff.

ROLE PURPOSE:
The Fundraising, Awards Management and Communications (FAMC) Department is responsible for producing a high volume of English-language materials including reports, newsletters, case studies, case stories, fact sheets, brochures and other promotional materials.

To support the production of exceptionally high quality English-language communications materials, Save the Children is seeking a Communications Development & Quality Volunteer with native or equivalent proficiency English and excellent writing and editing skills.

The volunteer will support the following tasks:
  • Proofreading and editing English-language documents produced by FAMC and other departments within the country office, including IEC materials, reports, case studies, case stories, press releases, briefing documents, film scripts and research studies;
  • Ensuring that reports and case studies are well-written, analytic and of ‘donor-ready’ quality;
  • Writing and supporting the content development of IEC materials and other communications materials as necessary, including Annual Review, project brochures and programme factsheets;
  • Providing input into the structure, design and layout of presentations, IEC materials and other communications materials;
  • Enhancing social media engagement;
  • Working closely with the communications team to coordinate visits from donors and other stakeholders;
  • Supporting the capacity development of staff in terms of effective communication, English writing and critical data analysis skills (both in Phnom Penh and field offices);
  • Contributing to relevant areas of research and learning to enhance the performance and effectiveness of the communications team;
  • Conducting research to support the development of evidence-based proposals and concept notes;
  • Any other tasks as required.

Reports to: Documentation and Training Coordinator  (with dotted lines to Awards and Reporting Coordinator and Communications Coordinator)
