Aerial Surveying and Mapping with DJI Drone

Drones provide a fast and easy means of capturing images of natural and man-made land-based features and areas that may be difficult to access or fully cover because of size or terrain. Surveying drones such as eBee from senseFly costs over 30,000 USD and it is not affordable for most of the GIS and mapping projects. However, due to recent advancement in modern photogrammetry, it is now possible to turn your consumer drones such as those from DJI into a professional mapping tool. DJI Phantom 3 Professional and Phantom 4 which cost less than 2,000 USD for a complete mapping unit have become a very popular choice for aerial surveying and mapping work.

The main purpose of this training is to introduce participants to the fundamental concepts of modern photogrammetry, how to make flight plan and capture images for DJI Phantom 3 Professional and Phantom 4, and how to use software to create orthomosaic and 3D data from the drone images.

The followings are the key topics to be presented and discussed during the training:

• Understanding modern photogrammetry
• Understanding ground control points (GCPs)
• Understanding flight plan Nadir
• Getting to know DJI drone mapping system (hardware and software)
• Flying DJI Phantom 3 Professional and Phantom 4 safely
• Working with iOS App to manage flight plan Nadir and autonomously fly DJI Phantom 3 Professional and Phantom 4
• Editing incorrect drone captured images with Photoshop
• Working with Windows software process the images for creating orthomosaic and 3D data from the drone images

Fee: $500 per participant (free for those who buy DJI drone mapping system from L3 Technology before or after the training)
Prerequisite: Basic knowledge of GIS and your own laptop.

Mr. LA Veha will be the key trainer of this course. He has completed Master of Spatial Information Science from the University of Melbourne, Australia and had extensive work experiences as GIS and Database Specialist for different projects and organizations including:
