Description
The
BIS has a number of openings for experienced economists in its Monetary
and Economic Department (MED). The positions are in a variety of units,
including financial markets, financial systems and regulation, monetary
policy, macroeconomic analysis and the secretariat of the Committee on
the Global Financial System (CGFS).
Purpose of the job:
With a balance depending on the specific unit in MED and the level of seniority:

Define and carry out high-quality policy analysis and research in the areas of competence, to be included in BIS publications and professional journals

Provide analytical and secretariat support to meetings of senior central bank officials, committees and BIS management, including the preparation of background documents and reports

Contribute to the regular BIS publications, such as the Annual Report and Quarterly Review

Establish, maintain and develop contacts with central banks, academics, market participants and other relevant institutions (eg supervisory authorities)

Coach and supervise more junior staff; lead and coordinate project teams

Represent the Bank externally at international meetings and conferences; establish and maintain professional contacts with the central banking and academic communities as well as with the private sector
Qualification and work experience required:
-
PhD in economics or finance from a university of international standing (or equivalent experience)

At least six years’ relevant experience, preferably including several years in a senior position at a central bank or international financial institution

Track record in high-quality, policy-relevant research

Close exposure to policy issues of interest to central banks
Skills required:
-
Very good knowledge of financial economics and experience in analysing topics in this field at a central bank, international institution, university of international standing or a major financial firm

Excellent drafting and communication skills in English for both technical and non-technical audiences

Self-starter, curious, team player; able to work independently as well as in small teams

Ability to work under pressure and to meet tight deadlines
