Duties and Responsibilities
BACKGROUND
The United Nations requires professional staff counselling services in the form of on-site psychological first aid counselling within the UN Medical Service in Bangkok. The provision of such services is expected to create awareness of psycho social issues and tools with which to manage them, reduce the level of stress experienced by staff members, enhance work effectiveness and job satisfaction, and lower absenteeism.

RESPONSIBILITIES
The consultant will be responsible for providing a variety of mental health-related services described below:

- Design and deliver briefings and training programmes in areas such as stress and crisis management, resilience building in the workplace, psychological first aid, soft skills in crisis response, and others.
- Adjust and revise existing training session plans to meet individual
and organizational needs. Collaborate with the Medical Officer to update
learning materials and reference aids used in various programmes.
Provide psychological first aid services in the form or individual and group counselling sessions in areas such as stress management, harassment, substance abuse, grievances, long-term and terminal illness, family issues, and work-related issues. Provision of such services remotely, as necessary, to UN staff at offices away from Bangkok. - Enhance UN Medical Service web presence and tools for psycho-social support.
- Identify and monitor factors that could lead to stress with particular focus on stress in the workplace.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications/special skills
PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE
Minimum of five years experience in providing psychological counselling and/or psychotherapy is required. Additional experience in alcohol/substance abuse, stress management, traumatic stress, cross-cultural communication, conflict resolution or related area is desirable.

ACADEMIC QUALIFICATIONS
An advanced university degree (Masters or equivalent) in clinical psychology, clinical psychiatry or clinical social work is required.

Training, presentation and facilitation skills for a highly diverse audience is desirable.

LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS

Additional Information
LOCAL ENGAGEMENT
Engagement of the selected consultant is on a local basis. Candidates shall be engaged within commuting distance of the UNESCAP office, irrespective of nationality. The selected candidate is responsible for any expenses incurred to participate in the assessment process, and any costs related to travelling and relocating to the duty station in the event of an offer of employment.

Some international travel may be required (approximately one week away from Bangkok).

This Consultancy Job Opening will be used to fill the immediate requirements indicated above,and will also be used to create a roster of qualified Counsellors for ad hoc assignments within the the United Nations in Bangkok on an as-needed basis.
