UNESCO MGIEP is calling for proposals to design a digital simulation
game with high-end graphics intended to help undergraduate students in
economics and sustainability studies to understand the principles and
implications of the Inclusive Wealth Index.
Working on the basis of data collected over 21 years from 140
countries, the game is intended to complement traditional
teaching-learning tools in economics and sustainability studies
classrooms, and become an interactive and fun mechanism for students to
deepen their understanding of the inter-connections and relationships
across the pillars of sustainability.
By playing the game, students should ideally begin to learn how a
change in one sub-component can trigger a cascade of changes in the
larger system; help identify possible leverage points or policy
interventions where maximum impact can be created; and most importantly,
develop a futures’ orientation in the players and encourage them to
apply this understanding in shaping real life economic and
sustainability policies.
The simulation game should be based on a dynamic model that allows
users to change key parameters used in macroeconomic planning so that
subsequent changes are reflected in other key variables of the IWI
database.
An advisory group of experts will evaluate the proposals and also
mentor the winning bid in the development of the game. Preferably, the
submitting teams should have domain experts from the fields of
Economics, Ecology and Gaming.
All applications should include the following information:
- A cover letter with contact information, including phone number, email and mailing address
- A work plan with a timeline, keeping in mind that a prototype is expected by December 2015, and a fully functional game by fall of 2016
- Estimated budget, including overheads
- Description and sample of similar work done previously
- Detailed CV of all members of the team
- All applications should be in English
