Functional Responsibilities
Coordination of advocacy efforts on behalf of the WASH sector
- Support WSSCC’s
leadership of the Advocacy and Communications Working Group on post-2015 WASH
targets and indicators by:
- identifying key opportunities and events that the group can use to promote the targets and indicators that have been developed via an extensive expert consultation;
- ensuring smooth functioning of the group and effective internal communications via regular email updates, monthly teleconferences and ad hoc correspondence as needed;
- organizing twice-yearly face-to-face workshops, including development of meeting agendas, drafting of background papers and meeting reports;
- coordinating the development, translation and dissemination of advocacy materials.
- Support
WSSCC’s development and implementation of a UN-led communications campaign to
support the UN Deputy-Secretary General’s call to action on sanitation. In
particular:
- support countries and existing partners to adapt and use the basic campaign toolkit (to be launched mid 2014);
- identify new partners (e.g. private sector companies) and initiate, develop and deliver campaign elements in collaboration with them;
- in collaboration with partners and the creative agency, develop new materials to support the campaign;
- work with the WSSCC Senior Programme Officer, Monitoring and Evaluation, to evaluate the activity;
- contribute to regular liaison with key campaign partners, including within the UN Executive Office of the Secretary-General, the UN Department of Information and the UN Millennium Campaign.
- Support
the Programme Manager, Advocacy and Communications, to deliver on WSSCC’s
commitment to provide advocacy and communications services to the Sanitation
and Water for All partnership. In particular;
- provide support to SWA communications and advocacy staff members based at the WSSCC offices in Geneva at times of peak activity (e.g. in advance of the SWA High Level Meetings);
- promote coordination between high-level advocacy undertaken by SWA and other global efforts, such as those around the achievement of the MDGs and positioning of WASH in the post-2015 development agenda;
- promote coordination between high-level advocacy undertaken by SWA and regional and national initiatives, particularly those around the setting and monitoring of political commitments.
- Review WSSCC’s current portfolio of engagement in global advocacy (as outlined above) and provide strategic guidance on ongoing engagement, particularly post-2015, links to regional and national-level advocacy, and the best ways to balance advocacy efforts undertaken in coalition or on behalf of the WASH sector with initiatives led by WSSCC.
