Title: National Consultants/ Surveillance Officers

To reduce morbidity and mortality by providing immunization against vaccine preventable diseases for all children in the first five years of life and for all women of child-bearing age.
To eradicate poliomyelitis, to eliminate measles, and to eliminate neonatal tetanus.
Description of duties:
Under the overall supervision of the Expanded program on Immunization ( EPI) Focal Person and in dose collaboration with the central EPI team and the Regional coordinator, the officer will provide technical guidance and will cooperate with the government authorities towards the goals of Polio Eradication, measles elimination and maintaining neonatal tetanus elimination through achieving and maintaining quality surveillance within the framework of integrated disease surveillance and response. In addition, the office will support routine and supplemental immunization activities. The officer will specifically execute the following tasks:
1- Maintains a sensitive active surveillance system in the area of assignment within the framework of IDSR with a special emphasis on Polio eradication, measles elimination and maintaining neonatal tetanus elimination,
2- Provides trainings and technical support for improving routine immunization and surveillance activities
3- Collaborates with the Regional, Zone and Woreda health offices and health workers at health facility level and community level for all surveillance and immunization activities providing regular technical support and feedback
4- Establishes partnerships with health NCO's in the area of assignment particularly in places where access is compromised
5- Monitors surveillance and EPI data regularly and create and implement action plans in areas where data shows gaps or weakness
6- Conducts outbreak investigations whenever there are rumours of cases of confirmed cases; provides feedback to all partners and government counter parts with appropriate formats,
7- Provides technical support to all levels of government structure and with other partners to achieve high quality supplemental immunization activities
8- Submits monthly and needed activity reports to WHO/EPI and the Regional Health Bureau
9- Assists with follow up of timely utilization and retirement of surveillance and immunization funds at every level
10- Carries out any other assignments as assigned by supervisors
