International students are welcome to apply to the two-year programmes, which lead to an officially recognised master’s degree and qualify for doctoral studies. We also offer non-degree programmes and courses with instruction in English for exchange students in a variety of fields.
JYU Scholarships:
JYU Scholarships are available for the best applicants liable to pay tuition fees. You can apply for a JYU scholarship (Finland Scholarship or JYU tuition fee scholarship) if you are:
- eligible to apply to study in an international Master's degree programme offered by JYU
- liable to pay tuition fees (please see our FAQ)

Starting from 2022, the following JYU scholarships are available for applications:
Finland Scholarships:
Finland scholarships awarded by JYU are part of the national Finland scholarship programme. Finland scholarships are awarded to the most academically merited applicant in each Master's programme, based on programme-specific admission criteria.
Finland scholarships cover 100% of the tuition fee for the first year of studies and include also a 5000 € grant towards the first year living costs, paid to the student after starting their studies. In addition, JYU awards a 100% tuition fee scholarship for the second year of studies to all recipients of the Finland scholarship who have proceeded in their studies as planned (min. of 55 ECTS during first year).
JYU Tuition Fee Scholarships:
JYU tuition fee scholarships are awarded to cover tuition costs. There are two categories and several scholarships are awarded in each Master's degree programme, based on programme-specific admission criteria.
Each Master's degree programme offers two scholarships covering 100% of the tuition fee and four scholarships covering 50% of the tuition fee. The JYU tuition fee scholarships are awarded for two years. To receive the scholarship for the second year of studies, the students have to proceed in their studies as planned (min. of 55 ECTS during first year).
Scholarships at the Faculty of Mathematics and Science:
You are eligible for this scholarship if you=
- are admitted to an English-taught Master's degree programme at the Faculty of Mathematics and Science at JYU
- do not have Finnish citizenship- are not eligible for Kela's (The Social Insurance Institution of Finland) student financial aid
The scholarship is 500 euros per month and is intended for living costs in Finland. Students admitted to a Master’s degree programme to start their studies in 2022 can apply for this grant after arriving at JYU.
The scholarship is granted for two academic years and is paid twice a year. The scholarship for the second year is only awarded if the student has completed min. of 55 ECTS during the first year of studies and has a valid residence permit. If the degree is completed in less than two years, the right to the scholarship expires upon the completion of the degree. Scholarships are not paid for academic terms/years when the student has registered for non-attendance.
Fulbright scholarship for U.S. students:
Fulbright Foundation Finland together with JYU offers a Fulbright-University of Jyväskylä Gradute Award. The award is intended for a U.S. student admitted to one of the Master’s degree programmes at the JYU.
