This is a specialist in public health nutrition post in which the
person will contribute to major new participatory research programs on
poverty and vulnerability in Aquatic Agricultural Systems and in producing more nutrient rich animal-source foods to reduce poverty, hunger and malnutrition in developing countries.
The Public Health Senior Nutrition Specialist will be responsible for:
- Providing leadership for the design, implementation and reporting of the Center’s investment in research to improve nutritional outcomes in target groups through increased fish consumption in poor populations and vulnerable groups
- Developing collaborative research proposals and fund-raise
- Helping design and carry out rigorous evaluations to document the impacts of interventions on poverty, gender equity, food and nutrition security, fish consumption, dietary diversity and nutrition and health outcomes
- Supporting and building on our current nutrition focused research and further strengthening the capacity of WorldFish and its partners to include nutritional dimensions in our work
- Facilitating exchange of knowledge on, and out scaling of, best practice approaches in agriculture and nutrition linkages
- Fostering strong partnerships with public and private sector and civil society organizations needed to implement research in nutrition and achieve impacts
- Leading WorldFish staff directly focused on nutrition research and acting as the WorldFish focal point for CGIAR wide engagement and partnership in nutrition research
Candidates are sought with:
- A PhD degree in one of the following disciplines: Public Health Nutrition, Public Health, International Nutrition, Epidemiology, or related fields
- 5-10 years of relevant experience in applied nutrition research in developing countries using quantitative research methods and analyses; expertise in research linking agriculture and nutrition highly desirable
- A strong grounding in epidemiology, study design and statistical methods
- Established reputation and strong publication record in high-ranking peer-reviewed journals
- Familiarity with different stages of the project/program cycle (design, implementation, supervision, monitoring and evaluation)
- Demonstrated quality of judgment and the ability to think strategically, assessing and responding to new challenges in development
- Strong interpersonal skills, and the ability to lead and work in multidisciplinary teams as well as develop a close and effective working relationship with partners from different sectors and backgrounds
- Strong partnerships with other research institutions in agriculture - nutrition linkages
- Strong management skills, deployed in a multicultural setting
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English, and the ability to present coherent and convincing strategic analysis
- Demonstrated experience in fund raising and proposal writing
