Key Responsibilities:
  • Review selected MRC documents and the MRC photo database, and discuss this TOR with the BDP team and MRC’s International Cooperation and Communication Section (ICCS);
  • Prepare a few alternative outlines of the photo book in an inception report in consultation with and supervision from the BDP team (please see the TOR for more details);
  • Discuss the inception report with the BDP team (regional and national) and ICCS and agree on a preferred outline and travel plan. It is anticipated that some of the photography in the photo book will come from the Consultant’s and MRC’s stock;
  • Shoot new photos and prepare two mock-up versions of the photo book that shows the lay-out, possible photos, and associated text for internal discussions and feed-back;
  • During field visits, document people’s voices as well as locations, time of year and any noteworthy detail that could be used for photo messages and short stories;
  • Prepare the draft photo book, based on further photography (including in the dry season) and consultation with the MRC/BDP graphic designer. Discuss the book with the BDP team and ICCS, also considering the new photography that is not used in the photo book;
  • Improve the MRC/ICCS photo database with the new photography and the photos used from the Consultant’s stock. Provide recommendations to further improve MRC’s database of digital and analogue stock photography;
  • Finalize the photo book with the MRC/BDP graphic designer for print production.
Qualifications/Requirements:
  • Demonstrated track record in professional photography on development-related issues in a developed and developmental context;
  • Working experience in the Mekong Region related to emerging issues affecting organizations, communities and people;
  • Experience with photojournalism would be an advantage;
  • Experience setting up and managing photo database systems;
  • Excellent English language skills;
  • Must be willing to travel to remote areas and development sites;
  • Must have a professional SLR camera and a variety of lenses including wide-angle and zoom.
