Epicentre is an
association created by Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) whose mission
consists of conducting studies intended to enhance the medical treatment
provided in the MSF intervention programmes. For a complete description

Mission
The postholder will manage the operations and development of the Epicentre Clinical Research Department. The postholder will answer to the Managing Director. The main objective of the Clinical Research Department is to analyse new diagnostic and therapeutic approaches, in particular in the field of infectious diseases. As well as running the work of his/her own department, the postholder may also be involved in initiating research projects laterally with the other Epicentre departments. The postholder will establish on-going working relations with the Operations Department, the Medical Department as well as with Managers of programmes in the MSF operational centres.
Main responsibilities
• To ensure the implementation and scientific quality of the work carried out.
• To administer and run the department and to define annual work objectives that are cohesive with the general objectives of Epicentre and of sections of MSF.
• To draw up, review and justify the department’s budget.
• To take part in scientific and medical exchanges in the internal and external networks of MSF.
• As a member of the Epicentre Management Committee, to take part in the strategic decisions concerning the development of Epicentre and, in this context, to take part in the general development of the MSF movement.
Required expertise
• International training in epidemiology
• Experience in research and running projects in developing countries
• Experience in the running and publication of scientific work and in fields similar to those of Epicentre
• Experience in team management
• If possible a knowledge of Médecins Sans Frontières
• A good knowledge of the landscape of those involved in scientific work at international level
• Maturity and acceptance of the responsibilities involved in this post, and the ability effectively to represent the Epicentre organisation
• The ability to manage and lead a team and to encourage new ideas
• The capacity to communicate orally and in writing, and to supervise this kind of communication
• Fluent French and English
• The willingness to be committed to the life of an organisation in a position of responsibility for the Management of Epicentre
Conditions
Post based in Paris, with frequent travel. Permanent contract, full-time from January 2013 (probationary period of 4 months). For candidates originating from a public administration role there may be the possibility of secondment. Remuneration: 65503.75 euros per annum for a 13 month year, gross.
