Media for Education and Development in Action (MEDIA One)
VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT
The Executive Director provides strategic vision and leadership with an emphasis on program excellence, innovation, and results. The ED is responsible for the development and implementation of strategic plans and guides the staff in carrying out activities in support of those plans through effective management and development of staff, financial resources, operational systems and controls, and relationships with a broad range of partners and stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership and management of MEDIA One programming and operations. Reports to the organization’s Board of Directors.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Provide strategic direction and ensure adherence to MEDIA One’s organizational vision, mission, and values;
- Provide creative direction and inputs into media programming, such as creative briefs, scripts, recording sessions, and edits;
- Oversee all financial and operational systems;
- Lead the senior management team in creating program innovations and implementing effectively designed programs;
- Produce program and financial reports, including periodic donor reports and financial statements to the board of directors;
- Oversee the preparation and implementation of annual work plans and budgets and report against these to the Board of Directors;
- Maintain exceptional monitoring and evaluation systems to ensure and communicate measurable results of the organization;
- Oversee human resources policies and practices;
- Lead and motivate the staff to achieve high levels of performance and results;
- Build strong working relationships with relevant senior level stakeholders, including program beneficiaries, government officials, the donor community, NGO partners, the Board of Directors, Equal Access International, and the Equal Access network of country programs;
- Cultivate exceptional relationships with MEDIA One’s international and local donors and ensure financial and programmatic accountability;
- Actively pursue funding opportunities and supervise the writing and submission of high quality proposals to donors and relevant partners;
- Represent MEDIA One externally and communicate clearly the vision, mission, and unique capacities and contributions of the organization.
Job Specifications
- Minimum Bachelor of Arts degree in a field of relevance to media, communications and/or development;
- At least 5 years experience in senior management positions, including experience managing multi-sectoral programs for a non-profit organization; business experience is also a plus.
- Demonstrated effectiveness in management and leadership positions of increasing responsibility with achievement of significant results;
- Strong financial and operational management skills, including preparation and monitoring of budgets, financial controls, human resource systems, and contracts;
- Demonstrated success at fundraising and organizational representation;
- Experience with media programming and social and behavior change communication strategies;
- Strong working knowledge of monitoring and evaluation systems, particularly as they relate to measurable results in communication programming;
- Exceptional interpersonal skills and ability to motivate and encourage the best in staff and partners;
- Experience supporting and developing staff skills and evaluating and enhancing staff performance;
- Excellent written and spoken English and Khmer and the ability to communicate clearly and concisely;
- Strong networking skills and knowledge of various stakeholders, including government officials, donor community, and other NGOs working in development and communications-related fields.
