Project Officer, Flagship Species Programme

Location: The
position will be based in Phnom Penh,
with regular travel to field sites.

Working
with: Flagship Species Officer, Marine
Turtles Project Officer, Cambodian Elephant Conservation Group, Cambodian
Crocodile Conservation Programme, RUPP-CBC, partner staff
Main
Duties: Under the supervision of the Flagship
Species Officer, the Project Officer will provide key administrative and
programme support to the Flagship Species Programme in Cambodia, including but
not limited to Asian elephant, Siamese crocodile and marine turtles.
Specific
Duties:
Research
- Assist with field surveys and monitoring of flagship species at project sites, including planning, logistics, liaison with project partners and conducting fieldwork;
- Produce trip reports for each field excursion;
- Collect and file research results, contact details, basic community information, GPS tracks and waypoints, maps and digital photographs;
- Assist in translation and analysis of project research and warden reports;
- Assist in monitoring community warden activities, through collecting reports from the field, mapping and analysing GPS data
Project Administration
- Provide monthly reports on project activities to the Flagship Species Officer;
- Help with administration tasks such as scanning and organizing programme documents, translation and disbursing expenses to project partners (e.g. payments for nesting beach patrols, community crocodile wardens);
- Submit advance requests and manage expenditure for field trips;
- Attend workshops and conferences as a Flagship Species Programme representative and promote and report on projects;
- Help with promoting collaborative opportunities with other organisations involved in flagship species conservation.
Community engagement and collaboration with other project partners
- Assist in meetings with local communities and project partners;
- Raise awareness and engage communities in flagship species conservation issues and project objectives;
- Maintain contact with local communities to monitor project implementation and its effects on local communities;
- Build and maintain working relationships with project partners and collaborators in flagship species research and conservation, including but not limited to Forestry Administration, Ministry of Environment, Fisheries Administration (FiA) and other government departments as necessary, development agencies and other conservation organisations
- Provide feedback from communities and meetings with authorities to the Flagship Species team;
- Assist in building capacity of local stakeholders in research and conservation of flagship species
Qualification/requirements
- Masters degree or equivalent experience in an environmental field;
- Proven administrative skills;
- Experience with International NGOs and coordination with Government;
- Experience of working with communities;
- Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel and other MS Office products;
- Proficiency in spoken & written Khmer and English;
