Training Fee:
  • 220$ for CMA members

Trainer/Facilitator (or potential); Human resource officer; and Leaders, who wish to learn transferring skills for effective task delegation.

Introduction
Doing good work is easy, but helping other people to learn doing good work is often a challenge. For those, who wish to develop capacity of others need
    a)-  expertise in the subject areas (content) and
    b)-  the skills and techniques to transfer the content to other people.
These transferring skills/techniques are known as capacity development approaches, and training and facilitation are an important part of them.

Goal
The goal of the course is to equip participants with all necessary and required foundations for effective trainer and facilitator.

Course Objective:
By the end of the four-day course, participants will be able to:
  • Clarify the capacity development approaches
  • Describe the importance of participatory learning
  • Distinguish between training, facilitation and coaching
  • Identify roles and important skills needed for an effective trainer
  • Clarify different training tools and techniques and their applications
  • Describe practical steps for training management 
  • Define the nature and characteristics of a facilitation
  • Explain important skills needed for a facilitator
  • Practice and reflect on a facilitation process
  • Reflect on how to deal with difficult situation in a training or facilitation

  • Overview of capacity development: definition, cycle, and approaches
  • Introduction to participatory learning
  • Training, facilitation and coaching
  • Knowledge, skills and attitudes required for effective trainer
  • Training tools and techniques (all necessary tools, with exercises)
  • Practical steps in training management (with exercises)
         - Learning need assessment
         - Designing course content and handouts
         - Developing session plans
         - Preparing training event
         - Conduct training event
         - Producing training report
  • Nature and characteristics of facilitation
  • Important competencies required for an effective facilitator
  • Facilitation process (practice exercise)
  • Reflection on possible challenges in a training and facilitation

Trainers’ Profile:
Mr. Leng Chhay is a Cambodian capacity development practitioner.
His areas of expertise are Organizational Development (including organizational review/evaluation; strategic planning; development of vision, mission, goal, and values; project development and management; leadership and management; board and governance; systems, policies and structure etc.) and Facilitation of Learning Processes using holistic learning approaches such as training, facilitation, coaching/mentoring, reflection, plenary workshops, knowledge management etc. Mr. Chhay has worked with a wide range of staff and leaders from local and international organizations. He is able to adapt western concept to the Cambodian context, and is able work in a multi-cultural setting. Chhay has been working in the Cambodian development sector for 16 years in the field of Capacity Development: starting with over one year with a private development company, then over three years as head of the training unit with Amret (formerly EMT), a leading microfinance institution in Cambodia; thereafter seven years in a senor position with VBNK, a leading capacity development institute in the Cambodian social development sector; and since November 2007, he decided to work as an independent consultant. During the course of his professional career, he got a wide range of personal and professional development.

Training Methodology:
A number of exercises will be conducted (with feedback from trainer) to deepen participants’ learning on topics, tools and process.  They will be shared with a number of practical experiences regarding training and facilitation challenges and useful tips. Other methodologies such as daily journaling and reflection, pair/trio work, small group discussions, plenary discussions, storytelling etc. will be used. There will be an evaluation at the end of the training.
