1440 Foundation has committed a total of $75,000
to recognize up to three ideas, products, or solutions that best help
non-experts learn, improve, and share through technology one or more of
the following relationship skills: self-awareness, authenticity, trust,
and empathy.
Submission Guidelines
Your submission idea should:
- Help people learn, practice, improve, and share one or more of the following four basic relationship skills: self-awareness, authenticity, trust, and empathy;
- Apply to one or more of the following areas: education, wellness, or the workplace;
- Mobilize authentic connections either inside individuals, between and among people, and/or within communities.
- Use technology (broadly defined as curricula, tools, apps, social media or other applications) to effectively reach a wide audience.
- Be easy to use so that non-experts (in technology) can have easy access.
Who Is Eligible?
Individuals 18 years or older, teams of individuals 18 years or
older, and U.S. public charities are eligible to apply. Applicants may
apply more than once for distinctly different ideas. Current grantees of
1440 Foundation are encouraged to apply. Those directly contracted with
the 1440 Foundation or the 1440 Challenge, however, will be excluded.
This includes 1440 Foundation employees, consultants, officers, and
directors of 1440 Foundation; the 1440 Foundation’s affiliates,
partners, advertising administrators, and promotions agencies, including
(but not limited to) employers of Contest and judges as well as their
immediate families (parents, children, siblings, spouse) or members of
the same household (whether related or not) of such
employees/officers/directors.
How to Enter
To enter the 1440 Challenge, please visit and “Like” the 1440 Foundation page on Facebook.
Once connected to our page, you will be led through an on-line
application process that will require the following primary components:
- Contact information for the applicant or organization,
- Descriptive title of five words or less,
- Short description of the idea in 120-characters (including spaces) or less,
- 1,000 to 1,500-word description of your idea including:
- How it will meet the five elements listed in the submission guidelines above;
- What sets it apart from similar efforts;
- A brief budget and timeline for bringing the idea to completion;
- Brief bios of your team members including qualifications, past experience, and any links to relevant URLs;
- External validation and/or support (if any) that your idea has received to date.
- Original video of up to sixty (60) seconds that describes or illustrates your idea.
All Submissions must be in English. Submissions that do not include
all of the above five elements or that do not comply with the above
size, length and format requirements will not be considered.
Entries must be submitted in full to 1440 Foundation’s Facebook page
by 12:59 pm PST on June 1, 2012. Entries received after this date/time
will not be considered.
Challenge Deadlines
- June 1, 2012 — On-line application submitted to 1440 Challenge Facebook page
- July 13, 2012 — Notices sent to as many as 10 finalists. At that time, entrants may be asked to refine proposals.
- September 1, 2012 — Judges will select up to three winning entrees to be notified on or about September 1, 2012. After that time, a team of professional advisors may continue to work collaboratively with the winning proposals for further refinement, financing, and promotion. Winners will be recognized on the 1440 Foundation website, 1440 Facebook page, and 1440 Twitter account as well as the Wisdom 2.0 website.
- February 2013 — 1440 Challenge winners may be eligible to present their ideas and chronicle their progress at a future Wisdom 2.0 Conference as guests of 1440 Foundation.
