Practical Training on
"Effective Media and Communication Strategy"

I. BACKGROUND:
On 15-16 December 2011 in Bangkok, the ILO Bureau for Employers Activities (ACTEMP) in collaboration with the ASEAN Confederation of Employers (ACE) organized a training workshop on “Media and Communication” for the Presidents and CEOs of the Employers’ Organizations that are members of ACE to enhance their media and communication skills and allow ACE to gain greater media and public exposure as a reputable regional employers’ organization. As a member of ACE, CAMFEBA sent her Vice President Ms. Sandra D’Amico and the Executive Manager Mr. Som Chamnan to attend it. Finding that this training was very useful for other Business Associations as well as other public and private entities in Cambodia, CAMFEBA invited the trainer to conduct this training in Cambodia.

III. TRAINING METHODOLOGY:
To promote the active participation, the training will include real practices after short lecture. Mock video interview with the media will also be used to allow the participants to practice the theories immediately.

- Be able to develop a strategic approach to using the media to communicate benefits and issues concerning economic reform in Cambodia.
- Build more effective bridges with the media, by understanding what journalists are looking for and how they operate.
- Be able to craft messages around economic reform issues and deliver them via media interviews of different types.
- Understand how to use various press tools in a more effective way.
- Be able to know how to develop the most effective Press Release, organize the Press Conference and conduct the video interview with the media.
III. TRAINING METHODOLOGY:

- The Triangle of Effective Communication
- Thinking Strategically with the Media
- Learning by example from others
- How to prepare for media interviews
- Designing a communication Strategy
- How to design and deliver key message?
- The “Five Fs” of media relations
- Understanding what journalists are looking for.
- Theories & Real practices
- Essential elements to consider when communicating during a crisis
- Thinking Punctually – Media Moments
V. WHO SHOULD ATTEND?
This course is tailor-made for Presidents, Executive Directors and leading figures of Business Associations, CEO's and Directors of the Company, organizations’ spokespersons, public relations and communication executives from both public and private sectors and civil society organizations.

ABOUT THE TRAINER:
Mr. Jean-Frederic Bernard

He carried out worldwide assignments before heading the Caribbean leading private radio station. The last eight years he spent delivering communications services and media training. He has extensive knowledge and experience in communication strategy design and planning, in developing relationships with the media and in training and coaching people working in the field of communications.
