About the role
Whether it’s one of the billion people living in slums worldwide or one of the mothers who needlessly die in pregnancy and childbirth, you can help give them a voice. Exercising leadership and sound judgment, you’ll lead on innovation and implementation of Demand Dignity’s global strategies and operational plans, making sure everything from tactics, actions and methodologies to publications meet our high standards. As Campaign Manager you will be working with a team in the creation and delivery of key projects and integrating campaigning with communication and activism. At the same time, you’ll work closely with our country sections and partner organisations, keep an eye on budgets and report on progress – all while representing Amnesty International externally.

About you
You’ll have already shown you have lead and delivered campaigns at a national and international level with innovation and impact. What’s more, thanks to first-hand experience of contemporary campaigning techniques for victims of human rights violations, you’ll be thoroughly familiar with the issues that surround this work, with a strong grasp of the ethical standards and principles that underpin professional work for these individuals. We’ll also be looking for the proven ability to campaign for a diverse range of target groups and to communicate organisational positions and views to external stakeholders or the media. Add a talent for co-ordinating, inspiring and working with a diverse team, and you could soon be making a difference on a grander scale, demanding dignity for all.

Job Summary
JOB PURPOSE:
Development and implementation of global strategies and operational plans for Demand Dignity Campaign, including campaigning and activism. Works in close co-ordination with the AI movement and outside networks. Represents Amnesty International externally and within the global movement.

DEPARTMENT PURPOSE:
To develop, coordinate, programme and lead on delivery of Demand Dignity Campaign; to increase campaign effectiveness across the International Secretariat and the Amnesty International movement.

AIIS PURPOSE:
The International Secretariat, which operates from a number of sites around the world, gathers and communicates accurate and action-oriented human rights information globally. We campaign for meaningful human rights change; enable effective human rights activism and work to persuade governments and other actors to uphold universal human rights standards.  We provide strategic leadership, support and advice to the Amnesty International movement globally, fostering Amnesty International’s contribution, presence and public accountability throughout the world.

WORKING RELATIONSHIPS:
Reporting to - Programme Director, Demand Dignity Programme.
Posts that this job manages - Temporary staff, interns, volunteers or external consultants as an when necessary.
Other key relationships - Campaign Co-ordinator, Regional Campaigners, Country Campaigners, Directors, Deputy Directors, Head of the Economic, Social, and Cultural Rights team; other members of the ESCR team, Project Advisor, Business and Human Rights Team, staff in Campaigns Programme, Regional programme staff, policy, legal and thematic teams, AI section & structure staff, in particular campaigns and communications staff and external partners.

LOCATION:
London - with frequent international travel.

Job Description
Exercise strategic leadership and provide sound judgment and expertise in relation to Dignity Campaign in order to lead the development and implementation of effective global strategies and operational plans taking advantage of political opportunities.

Ensure integration of campaigning with other sections / Structures / collations / Networks  in order to provide an effective, coherent programme of work that delivers tangible outcomes and consistent world wide, specially in the global south.

Manage the creation, delivery and coordination of key projects within the strategic framework and agreed priorities, ensuring participation of all stakeholders (including partner organizations), clear objectives, timely and accurate delivery, sound budget management and ensuring effective monitoring and reporting of progress.

Lead on development and, where appropriate, quality control of campaigning materials for use by Amnesty International sections & structures, International Secretariat staff and external audiences. Where appropriate, approve materials or manage approval processes to ensure standards and procedures.

Oversee and manage the development of effective partnerships with sections and structures and external actors to deliver campaigning, and advocacy and which ensures regular communication and feedback; engender movement engagement; develop movement capacity; ensure effective and creative membership-based actions and ensure exchange of relevant experiences between membership structures in different countries.

Support relevant section-led projects including section originated ‘Work On Own Country’ (WOOC) projects within the overall global strategy.

Advice  sections and structures on campaigning and activism and support sharing of advice on direct assistance, policy and ethical obligations to ensure and protect credibility of Amnesty International.

Build and maintain relationships with partner organisations, non-governmental organizations and other human rights collations. Represent areas of work within the movement, partner organizations, international organizations, media and public fora as appropriate. Participate in cross-program teams as necessary.

Manage risk assessments and oversee the implementation of security procedures for staff. Commission and supervise work of external consultants as appropriate to bring in additional areas of expertise and capacity.

Report on the work in areas of responsibility, including financial reporting, and contribute to the International Secretariat’s overall reporting obligations, ensuring accountability to internal stakeholders for own programme of work and allocated resources.

Key stakeholders are able to contribute to plans and implementing stakeholders in the IS and sections and structures understand their roles within the international strategy

Demand Dignity campaigning actions have wide take-up across the AI movement and with external collations.

Demand Dignity campaign is  implemented to deadline and on budget

Skills & Experience
Demonstrate experience of developing and managing campaigning at the national & international level and readiness to lead innovation and creative approaches to campaigning.

Excellent understanding of Amnesty’s mission and strategic campaigning methodologies, power analysis and campaign development tool including digital space and the most effective means of communication to achieve agreed goals, within given constraints.

Experience of developing project & campaign objectives & specifications and strategies to meet specific goals and objectives and ability to lead a project team to develop and deliver specific campaign strategies.

Awareness of issues of social justice, equality and fairness and an understanding of equal opportunities issues and willingness to apply in work.

Sound experience of providing an advocacy or similar support service for campaign team.

Understanding of voluntary commitment and of the organizational needs of the membership organization.

The ability to adapt to fast-changing political situations, making political judgments in an international environment and experience of employing political judgment and of assessing the most effective means of communication to achieve a goal within given constraints.

Experience of writing for a diverse range of target reader groups, including campaign materials for external readers and circulars or bulletins for internal purposes; ability to communicate organisational positions and views within the movement and to external stakeholders or media.

Experience of managing budgets, conflicting demands, meeting deadlines and adjusting priorities.

Fluent in written and spoken English; a working knowledge of Arabic, French or Spanish is desirable.

Ability to work in multi-cultural environment with appropriate sensitivity to differences of culture, gender and physical ability; Experience of establishing good working relationships with colleagues from a variety of cultures and backgrounds; understanding of equal opportunities issues and willingness to apply in work

Willingness to undertake personal administrative tasks in accordance with the guidelines on self-servicing.

Terms and Conditions
Salary: Full time salary of £41,124 per annum
Hours: 35 hours per week
Location: London
Contract duration: Fixed term contract of six months
Holidays: Full time staff receive 27 days per annum plus two Amnesty International grace day and statuatory and national public holidays.
Office hours: 09.30 - 17.30 or 10.00 - 18.00 by arrangement
Life insurance: Amnesty International provide a Death in Service benefit of 4 x gross salary.
Pension: After six consecutive months of service staff are automatically enrolled in the Amnesty International Superannuation Scheme. This is a defined contribution to which Amnesty International contributes 7.5% of gross salary and will match individual employee contributions up to an additional 3%.
Probation: A six month probation period will be included in the contract for this position.
Health and Safety: All staff are required to comply with Amnesty International's policy and rules relating to Health and Safety and its security regulations at work.
