Bridges Across Borders Cambodia (BABC) is an international solidarity organization working to support people’s action for social justice, inclusive development and human rights in Cambodia. The Development Watch program aims to promote a human rights approach to development by conducting monitoring, research, analysis and advocacy on the activities of major business and development actors operating in Cambodia.
BABC is currently looking for a qualified Cambodian national to fulfill the position of Research Officer, which is based in Phnom Penh, with frequent travels to the field. This is a full-time position with a one-year contract and possibility for renewal.
OVERALL RESPONSIBILITIES
- Under the supervision of the Development Watch Program Manager, the Research Officer will be responsible for the following tasks:
- Assist with the revision of Development Watch research strategy and methodology as needed.
- Assist the Program Manager and Development Watch’s international researchers in conducting and coordinating research field visits.
- Conduct community surveys and collect case studies through field visits.
- Conduct individual surveys and lead focus group discussions of affected communities during field visits.
- Conduct data entry and analysis of research findings.
- Compile research findings and produce accurate analytical sections of Development Watch reports.
- Provide logistical support for the organization of stakeholder meetings and workshops.
- Assist the Development Watch team with other research, monitoring and advocacy activities as needed.
ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS
- At least holding Bachelor of Science/Arts in Sociology, Law, Anthropology, Development, Human Rights or a related field.
- At least two years of research experience, including experience conducting field visits, data entry and analysis, desk-based research and report writing, as well as implementation and management of research projects,.
- Working knowledge and/or field experience in the following areas is favorable, but not required: social/human rights impacts research and assessment; gender equity research and assessment.
- Working knowledge and/or experience performing data entry and statistical analysis using software, such as SPSS.
- Working knowledge of computerized systems, including Microsoft Word and Excel.
- Ability to effectively communicate in Khmer (mother tongue) and English (proficient) both verbally and in writing to a satisfactory level.
- Ability to travel with little notice on a regular basis, as needed.
- Proactive personality, well-organized, collegial, and able to work well under pressure, both independently and as a member of a multi-national team.
