SNV is a specialized advisory services and knowledge-brokering organisation. We provide capacity development support to local and national organisations at the government, non-government and private sector levels. SNV is committed to the reduction of poverty, and works to achieve this in line with national poverty reduction strategies. Our advisors and the local capacity builders we work with currently deliver support to over 2,000 clients in 33 countries worldwide. In Asia, SNV provides advisory services in the sectors Agriculture & Forestry, Water Sanitation & Hygiene and Renewable Energy/Climate Change.
We are currently active in eight countries around the region, with established country offices in Bhutan, Nepal, Vietnam, Laos and Cambodia, and emerging programmes in Bangladesh, Pakistan and Indonesia. Our staffing base in Asia includes 180 advisors (65% of them national staff) and 65 support staff. Our work in Asia is led by a regional management team, made up of the Regional Director, our Country Managers and Regional Unit Managers. Business Development is currently
organized in two clusters: South Asia (Nepal, Bhutan, Bangladesh and Pakistan) and Southeast Asia (Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia and Indonesia). The SNV Asia office is based in Hanoi, Vietnam.
Responsibilities
The Regional Business Development Coordinator (RBDC) leads the drive for resource
diversification and oversees the BD activities of the entire SNV Asia region. In addition, the he/she coordinates all RM related activities for the Southeast Asia sub-region and is in charge of BD support to the Country Management Teams of SNV Cambodia and Indonesia. He/she report directly to Head of Strategy & Partnership of SNV Asia, and collaborates effectively within the Strategy team.
The successful candidate will be a well-seasoned professional, with solid experience in lobbying, networking, and resource mobilization, including experience in fundraising, with a variety of major donors, for international development.
The RBDC will be responsible for:
• Developing and implementing Regional RM strategy for SNV Asia,
• Overseeing and coordinating all RM related activities for the whole region in close collaboration with the RBDC South Asia,
• Creating a long-term fundraising plan for the region,
• Developing and implementing appropriate donor-relation strategies,
• Identifying and securing opportunities/funding sources to achieve SNV’s ambitions and related funding targets,
• Maintaining and influencing a network of donors and partners to maximize SNV’s funding opportunities,
• Institutionalizing best practice on business
Next to this the RBDC will:
• Advise the Regional Director on issues pertaining to Resource mobilisation,
• Liaison with BD corporate (including Head Office, WDC and other regions),
• Ensure adequate information flows on business development issues,
• Train, mentor and coach colleagues in business development,
• Support the Regional Management Team and BD teams in the development and marketing of new products and services,
• Profile SNV Asia at relevant events,
• Monitor regional business development effectiveness and targets and provide the required management information.
• Closely work with the RBDC South Asia and the Regional PR & Communication Officer,
• Closely work with Country Management Teams and network and sector leaders,
• Represent on behalf of the BD team in the Regional Management Team meetings,
• Maintain a functional relationship with BD staff in the region,
• Work closely with Management Team SNV Cambodia for all RM related activities in Cambodia,
• Provide strong support to regional management in terms of BD in Indonesia,
• Travel frequently in the region and beyond
RequirementRequirements
• A bachelor’s degree or higher in a relevant field; a masters degree in international development or another relevant field is preferred,
• A proven track record in resource mobilisation and Business Development,
• At least five years experience in partnership development and fundraising initiatives in context of global capacity building and/or integrated development programming,
• Three to five years experience within an international development organisation,
• Working knowledge of and existing relationships with relevant multi-lateral, bilateral and international donors and other stakeholders,
• Detailed knowledge of the funding mechanisms within at least two of the following organisations
- DfID, IFAD, AusAid, WB, and ADB,
• Experience in business development training, mentoring and coaching,
• Excellent analytical skills, alongside a practical approach oriented towards achieving lasting results,
• Excellent listening skills combined with strong verbal and written communication skills,
• The successful candidate will be articulate and persuasive - adept at crafting proposals, donor correspondence and other kinds of materials, as well as at making presentations to a variety of audiences,
• Exceptional written English skills, with proven ability in grant writing and written reporting,
• Willing to travel, both within the region and internationally (25-30% of time),
• Good team player; pragmatic and patient negotiator with solution-oriented approach,
• Prior work history in Asia is preferred.
