UN Citizen Ambassadors Video Contest

One winning entry will be selected per regional group of the UN General Assembly: African States; Asian States; Eastern European States; Latin American and Caribbean States; and Western European and other States, plus one winner representing the host country of the contest, the United States of America, for a total of six winning videos.

How To Enter The Contest

1. Read the contest Terms and Conditions
2. Research the Millennium Development Goals
3. Choose one of following three options as the topic of your video:
* Why are the Millennium Development Goals important to you and your family?
* What is your community, city or country doing to achieve the Millennium Development Goals?
* How can the international community better work together to achieve the Millennium Development Goals?
4. Watch the Call-for-Entries videos on YouTube
5. Click in the comments box directly below the video
6. On the right of the box you will see an icon with a "Attach a video" link - click here
7. At the top you should see the following text: "You are posting a Video Response to: [Name] invites you to be a Citizen Ambassador to the UN"
8. Click "Choose a video" to select a video you have already uploaded, or click "Upload a video" to upload a new video.
9. Your video will require approval by a moderator, so please be patient while we finalize your submission.



Terms and Conditions

* Only entries submitted via the YouTube platform will be eligible for consideration. To sign up for an account on YouTube, please visit http://www.youtube.com/create_account.
* Video entries should be two (2) minutes in duration or less.
* The contestant must be at least eighteen (18) years of age to enter the contest.
* Video submissions should be original and unpublished work by the contestant.
* The submitted video must address at least one of the eight Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) listed in the United Nations Millennium Declaration. For more information about the MDGs, please visit http://www.un.org/millenniumgoals.
* The submitted video should address one of the following challenges:

1. "Why are the Millennium Development Goals important to you and your family?"
2. "What is your community, city or country doing to achieve the Millennium Development Goals?"
3. "How can the international community better work together to achieve the Millennium Development Goals?"

* Submitted videos must be recorded in English or French, or in any other language but with English or French subtitles. Please see http://www.youtube.com/t/captions_about for simple instructions on how to create closed captioned subtitles for YouTube videos.
* The country and age of the contestant must be clearly indicated in the YouTube user profile to be eligible for consideration.
* Video submissions may not contain any offensive or inappropriate content, according to United Nations principles and practices, and must comply with YouTube's general terms and conditions.
* Current or former staff members, interns or retirees of the United Nations Organization, its Agencies, Funds or Programmes and any family and/or house-hold members of these staff members are not eligible for consideration in the contest.
* Submissions will end on 23 August 2010 at 11:59 p.m. New York time. Any entry submitted after this time will not be accepted. Any video modified after the end of the contest will not be eligible.
* The results will be announced in late September 2010 on the official Citizen Ambassadors website, on www.uncitizenambassadors.org and on the UN Channel on YouTube.


Selection Process

* Video entries will be judged based on the following criteria:

1. Relevance: How relevant is the video message to the MDG theme and challenges?
2. Merit: Does the video message merit viewing by world leaders?
3. Originality: Does the video message offer original opinions or suggestions?
4. Creativity: How creative is the video in its form and content?
5. Bonus points will be awarded for exceptionally aesthetic or compelling messages.

* The winning videos will be chosen by a panel of United Nations officials and external partners. The decisions of the judging panel are final and binding.
* The winners will be designated Citizen Ambassadors to the United Nations and will be invited to visit UN HQ on 22 October for UN Day 2010.
* One winning entry will be selected per regional group of the UN General Assembly: African States; Asian States; Eastern European States; Latin American and Caribbean States; and Western European and other States, plus one winner representing the host country of the contest, the United States of America, for a total of six winning videos. 6 Winners Will Receive

1. 1 HD Mino Flip Cam courtesy of UN Foundation and Flip Video
2. Honorary title of "Citizen Ambassador to the UN" for two years
3. Complimentary flight + 2 night stay in New York City for UN Day 2010
4. Meeting and photo-op with Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon
5. VIP seating at UN Day Concert in the GA Hall at UNHQ
6. The winning videos will be screened at the UN by end of year
