  • Minimum Academic Requirements: Good UK Upper Second Class Honours or First Class Honours Degree and preferably a distinction at Master's Degree level, or equivalents, in appropriate subjects. Candidates must also meet the University's English language requirements.
  • Additional Information: The School of English is offering two full-fee awards to international research postgraduate students commencing their studies in October 2008. The bursary will pay the full cost of tuition fees at the international rate and £500 maintenance per annum (renewable annually up to a maximum of 3 years on condition of satisfactory progress). The award-holder will be registered as a provisional PhD candidate, and would be expected to up-grade to full PhD status within twelve months of registration. Applicants for these awards are also expected to make an application to the ORSAS competition through the University of Leeds.

  • Value of Award: Each scholarship will be worth one half of the annual tuition fee rate
  • Number Available: Up to 6 awards available
  • Minimum Academic Requirements: Candidates must have received an offer of a study place for a postgraduate research degree in the School of Education. If English is not your first language, then candidates must also meet the University's English language requirements.
  • Additional Information: In addition, UK/EU students awarded a School of Education Research Degree Scholarship will normally be required to submit an application for an externally funded studentship (principally to ESRC or AHRC, though other funding bodies will be considered) which, if successful, will replace the School of Education's scholarship. Candidates will be given full support in preparing their application to external funding bodies. A contribution towards research project costs is provided to all postgraduate research students in the School. If you have not been contacted by the School of Education by July 1st , you may assume you have not been awarded a Research Degree Scholarship. If you are successful, you must confirm your offer of a place on the doctoral programme immediately after notification otherwise the scholarship will be awarded to another student.

  • Additional Information: This PhD Research Scholarship is available now for an immediate start. The aims of this multidisciplinary project are to research and develop stress-strain and oxygen transport models to predict cell behaviour and extracellular matrix remodelling in response to recellularisation and conditioning of decellularised tissues under uniaxial and biaxial strain stimuli. The tissues to be investigated will include tendon fascicles and pericardium with a view to develop tissue engineering constructs for the reconstruction of the mitral heart valve. This project will primarily employ analytical and computational finite element modelling, as well as experimental testing and validation. A major collaborator in this research is the UK National Blood Service Tissue Services. This project is also benefited from substantial links to the industrial sector.
