Sida Scholarships for Students from Cambodia, Laos and Vietnam in 2004 to 2007
The Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (Sida) and the Asian Institute of Technology (AIT), as part of their longstanding partnership, have entered into a new cooperation agreement for capacity building for sustainable development through higher education and training in Cambodia, Lao PDR and Vietnam for the period 2004-2007. Under the corporation agreement, 136 scholarships will be provided for master's degree studies at AIT.
The Sida-AIT development cooperation aims to strengthen the capability of institutions in Cambodia, Laos and Vietnam to address issues related to poverty alleviation, environmentally sustainable natural resource management through higher education and training of relevant personnel. The programme is a partnership between Sida and AIT to strengthen national and institutional capabilities in the Sida programme countries of Cambodia, Lao PDR and Vietnam. Through an integrated approach of postgraduate education, training, research, outreach activities and networking, the Programme aims to supplement the Swedish development goal in the region.
Capacity building is a primary consideration of Swedish development cooperation with a focus on strengthening and developing the recipient countries' own capacity to analyse and manage their own socio-economic and environmental problems.
