Internews Network is currently seeking a Country Director to oversee our media development program in Kyrgyzstan. This includes providing leadership in project implementation, ensuring compliance with donor reporting requirements, managing Internews staff and management systems, and developing new project ideas.
NEED:
- 4+ years experience in international development, media, and/or nonprofit fields, including management of field programs
Strong leadership, staff management, team-building, and organizational skills- Experience in grants management, USAID grant management experience strongly preferred
- Budgeting and financial management skills
- Strong computer skills
- Outstanding communication and problem solving skills
- Relevant university degree
- Excellent writing skills
- Fluent English and Russian required, regional language skills preferred
- Experience in media law and/or journalism and production preferred
- Experience working in developing countries, preferably in Central Asia
- Experience managing projects funded by US and/or European agencies or international organizations
JD:
- Overall Country Program Management; provide leadership and direction for the implementation of Internews Kyrgyzstan’s overall program strategy, ensuring that individual project goals are achieved while improving effectiveness and maximizing impact.
- New Program Development; lead the process of identifying new opportunities and resources while also designing relevant and effective program proposals
- Financial Oversight; ensure that financial and administrative processes are controlled and compliant with organizational and donor requirements; receive cash for Internews Field Office through local bank account; request wire transfers from Main Office Accounting for operating expenses; ensures Internews Field Office is properly registered and conforms to tax law
- Partner Capacity Building; provide technical and organizational development support to Internews Network’s local partners in Kyrgyzstan and other direct project partners as appropriate
- Sub-grant Management; oversee and monitor sub-grants to partner organizations
- Monitoring & Evaluation; oversee program monitoring and evaluation to ensure projects are performing as effectively as possible and to measure the impact of these activities throughout implementation.
- Donor Liaising; establish and maintain collaborative working relationships with current and potential donors
- Representation; represent Internews at all external events including meetings, roundtables and conferences with government officials, partner organizations and other stakeholders.
- Coordination; work closely with media organizations, other relevant civil society actors and other in-country programs to collaborate and leverage resources where possible
- Organizational Dialogue; maintain close contact with other Internews managers in the NIS to share best practices and resources where applicable
- Media Monitoring; maintain a thorough knowledge of independent media outlets and journalists in Kyrgyzstan, and a general understanding of the challenges and opportunities facing media across the region and NIS.
- Official Correspondence; prepare all official communications, briefings and reports to donors and partners as required
- Staff Capacity Building Responsible for the development of local staff capacity through strong management, specialized training, effective feedback and the modeling of professionalism
