The British Council connects people worldwide with learning opportunities and creative ideas from the UK and builds lasting relationships between the UK and other countries. We work with governments, donors and private-sector clients to provide services tailored to their needs, making a positive contribution to the quality of life in developing and transitional countries.

We are currently pursuing a number of opportunities in East, South East and South Asia which require long-term consultants to act as team leaders, experts and managers of social and economic development projects and programmes involving:

• social partnership with local government for improved service delivery
• political participation and empowerment
• civil society development
• institutional reform
• strengthening livelihoods
• enterprise and local economic development
• outcomes-based monitoring and evaluation

Precise requirements vary with the scope and duration of individual projects or programmes. All appointments are subject to contracts being awarded to the British Council via competitive tendering exercises.

You will have: substantial consultancy experience working on development contracts supported by donors such as DFID, EC, ADB or WB in one or more of the specified regions, a relevant university degree or post-graduate qualification, project management skills and a proven ability to work as part of a team. Experience of working in challenging political environments and fragile states would be an asset.
