- Develop, plan and implement the Control Arms campaign strategy with coalition partners Amnesty International and Oxfam and attend Control Arms management and other CAC meetings
- Work closely with IANSA members worldwide to engage them in the Control Arms campaign and support their advocacy work with governments in relation to the process of developing an ATT
- Coordinate global civil society action in line with agreed international objectives, in particular key events such as Days of Action, the Global Week of Action Against Gun violence, and UN events in Geneva and New York.
- Develop and distribute resources and materials for national campaigning activities in a variety of languages, ensuring that campaign messages and statements are consistent with Control Armsobjectives and enjoy the widest possible support amongst IANSA member organisations, and that the materials are consistent with the needs of a diverse and multicultural network
- Ensure all resources and materials are available online · Devise and manage, in association with campaign partners, appropriate administrative mechanisms for allocating the campaign’s finances, monitoring expenditure, collecting evidence of outcomesachieved and reporting to funders
- Design and implement capacitybuilding activities to help improve IANSA members’ ability to undertake effective campaigns, including organising and running civil society workshops.
- Participate in the Arms Trade Treaty Steering Committee and use the ATT SC analysis to inform campaigning activities
- Maintain an overview of worldwide political, legal and social developments relevant to current and potential campaigning activities, and ensure that members are kept informed through regularnewsletter, briefings and information / advisory materials.
- Provide support to network members in their meetings with government representatives and diplomats to discuss ATT related issues
- Identify and work with key spokespeople and allies, including celebrities, to support them in speaking out against armed violence and giving visibility to campaign’s goals · Assist the Director in the development of funding proposals for campaigning activities, and monitor expenditure against budget
- Make a strong contribution to the effective functioning of the IANSA Secretariat by supporting the activities of the Director and other staff, and undertaking other activities as directed
Essential for the successful candidate:
- Demonstrated experience of developing international campaigns, including proven ability to generate new ideas, set achievable and strategic objectives, determine incremental steps to be takentowards achieving objectives, implement activities consistent with financial and human resources constraints and meet agreed deadlines
- Specific skills in one or more key campaigning areas (eg media work, popular campaigning, lobbying)
- Demonstrated ability to write campaign materials for different audiences, including for IANSA members, the public and policymakers
- Ability to motivate partners from a geographical distance
- A degree (or equivalent) in politics, human rights, development or a relevant field
- Excellent communication skills in English, both orally and in writing
- Experience of representing an organisation at a national, regional or international level
- Proven ability to work with complex information in politicised environments
- Proven capacity to influence situations and outcomes
- Experience of working successfully across different cultures
- Ability to work under pressure and prioritise effectively
- Proven time management, work planning and organisational skills
- Ability to travel up to 2 months each year
It is desirable that the successful candidate have:
- Good command of French or Spanish
- Familiarity with the politics and discourse on armed violence and policies for arms control, as well as the international policy environment in which these issues are addressed
- Experience of undertaking campaigning capacitybuildingwork with international partners
