If you fail to plan, you plan to fail! This project planning and design course focuses on the design and planning of projects in the development sector. The course delivers knowledge, practical skills and tools to work successfully with local communities in the development and implementation of projects. The main tool used during this course is the logical framework approach, which provides a structured model for identifying expected results as well as the activities and inputs needed to accomplish them. It also introduces the implementation of a monitoring system. Participants learn how to best use the various tools with case studies and through group exercises.

COURSE OBJECTIVES
At the end of the course, participants will be able to
  • Plan a project effectively
  • Program its activities according to plan
  • Design and use its monitoring and evaluation system
  • Use the logical framework as a tool
  • Do a project checklist and timeframe
  • Delegate project role and responsibilities effectively

Module 2: Conceptualized Project

  • Determine the project scope and objectives
  • Goals and objective of project (SMART)
  • Developing project approaches/strategies
  • Project risk assessment
  • Project assumption and constraints
  • Project monitoring and evaluation
  • Brainstorming possible project solutions and choosing correct solutions
Module 3: Planning the project
  • Project planning checklist

Module 4: Tips of project planning

TRAINER PROFILE
Mr. YOS Chanthana holds M.Sc. in Aquaculture and Aquatic Resources Management and bachelor in Fisheries. Mr. Chanthana does not only have specialization in Fisheries, he also has knowledge of practical research and project management. He has a wide range of no-less-than-10-year experience as consultant and researcher with national and local agencies. He has been project manager, project evaluator, head of research, and consultant for many projects both international and national. Besides being a project manager, researcher, and consultant, he is also teaching Master degree class in various local universities.

METHODOLOGY
The training course is based on a series of modules, which can be adapted to the requirements of the course participants. The emphasis is put on practice and hands-on exercises and includes:
  • Group-work
  • Brainstorming
  • Questions and answers
  • Simulation
  • Short presentations

WHO SHOULD ATTEND?
The course will benefit persons who have some experience in project management, but not yet obtained comprehensive training, in particular:
  • Project managers
  • Program coordinators
  • Key field staff involved in designing and planning projects
  • Managers supervising project development and implementation
