MSPME - Masters in Strategic Project Management (European)

The Erasmus Mundus course, Masters in Strategic Project Management (European) is a unique programme in the field of Business Management. It is the only masters programme that takes an international perspective to the strong and growing demand for strategic thinkers who can deliver core business activities and realise competitive strategies in public, private and voluntary sector organisations through the implementation of strategic projects. The aim the MSPME is to fulfil this demand by developing graduates that have a systematic understanding of knowledge that combines ‘project management’ as process to deliver complex change and ‘strategic management’ as process
of formulating and implementing organisational strategy.

The MSPME is taught over a 16 month period, with students studying at internationally renowned institutions across three different countries (UK, Italy and Sweden). The first stage of study begins with a critical evaluation of strategy research and practice at Heriot-Watt University, School of Management & Languages in Edinburgh, United Kingdom. The second stage of study focuses on the implementation of project strategy through quantitative control tools and techniques at Politecnico di
Milano, School of Management in Milan, Italy. In final stage of study at Umeå University, Umeå School of Business in Sweden the themes are integrated through a research-based approach to strategic thinking and completion of the Master thesis. Throughout their studies students will develop understanding and evaluation of a comprehensive range of research techniques used in strategic project management, including transferable skills to enhance employability, particularly in middle-tosenior strategic and business-related positions across a wide range of public and private organisations.

The MSPME also benefits from close association and partnerships with industry. During the period of study students have the opportunity of attending organised events, guest lectures, internships, site visits and thesis opportunities within strategically driven organisations. Furthermore, students have
the opportunity of being involved with the key professional project management professional bodies; Project Management Institute (PMI), International Project Management Association (IPMA), and the Association of Project management (APM). Through, these and industry partners, students on the MSPME will be exposed to an invaluable and important, life-long network of project management professionals. The MSPME is taught in English. Successful graduates will receive a master degree
award from each institution. .
